At the spring meeting of 100+ Men Who Care of Putnam County, the Putnam County Mural Project was chosen as the latest quarterly local recipient of a grant from the organization. The first quarter’s check was in the amount of $10,300.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 13.

Mural Project co-founder Chris Flegal spoke on behalf of the Mural Project. The organization successfully led the silo project in Greencastle, which is now the largest mural in the state of Indiana. For their next project, Flegal explained that a new mural festival is set for September, and that funds are needed to complete the work at five locations around the county. The mural locations will include the Banner Graphic building and Putnam County Visitors Center in Greencastle, Off the Rails alleyway and community park building in Roachdale, as well as the former Tom’s Cookies building in Fillmore.

“We are grateful and honored for the continued support from the 100+ Men Who Care. In 2019, this group of philanthropic men helped us achieve success during our campaign, which was ultimately matched through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s CreatINg Places grant,” Flegal said. “Once again, the 100+ Men Who Care organization has allowed us to launch into our campaign with a significant amount of support toward our matching goal. We truly couldn’t accomplish this work without this support!”

Following the national model, 100+ Men meets four times a year to award impactful funds to a Putnam County 501C3 organization. The remaining meetings for 2022 are scheduled to be during the evenings of July 13, Sept. 14 and Nov. 16, all at the Inn at DePauw.

Since its January 2016 debut, the group has awarded more than $324,000 to 21 different Putnam County charities and nonprofit organizations, Mike Harmless, chairman of 100+ Men, said. In addition to the quarterly grants, the group also has created a Community Grants Endowment at the Putnam County Community Foundation that will provide more than $4,000 a year for the Foundation to utilize in its community grant-making process.

The 100+ Men of Putnam County was created based on two principals: There were men who wanted to give back to the community but lacked the time to do fundraising or serve on boards, and the process needed to be fun and easy.
