Brazil Concert Band heads south Sunday

BRAZIL — “Down South” is the theme for the Brazil Concert Band’s show set for Sunday, July 10 at 8 p.m. in Forest Park, rain or shine.

Director Matthew Huber and the band will feature “The Southerner” by Russell Alexander, “Way Down Yonder in New Orleans” arranged by Jerry Nowak, “Dixieland Clambake,” which includes ”Tin Roof Blues,” “Floatin’ Down to Cotton Town” and “Do You Know the Way to San Jose” in a setting by John Warrington, and new to the band will be “El Palomino Noble,” a march by Joseph Compello.

From Broadway, in a setting along the Mississippi River, comes “Show Boat” transcribed by Robert Russell Bennett, with all the famous songs by Oscar Hammerstein and Jerome Kern.

Arthur Pryor, renowned trombonist in she Sousa Band, wrote “An Arkansaw Huskin’ Bee,” and from the pen of Henry Fillmore comes the march “Miami.”

Fans of Elvis Presley will rock along with “All Shook Up” arranged by Ted Ricketts with “Jailhouse Rock,” “Love Me Tender,” “C’mon Everybody” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” The band performed this medley at Graceland in Memphis in 2008.

Wrapping up the concert will be “Tara’s Theme” by Max Steiner from “Gone with the Wind” and “Daughters of Texas” by John Philip Sousa.
