Taken into custody at Robe-Ann Park, Suthard was booked into the Putnam County Jail on a charge of battery with bodily injury.

One recent property-damage accident was investigated by city officers:

• At 4:12 p.m. June 30, a two-vehicle accident was reported on Wood Street at Gardenside Drive.

Braden Lady, 22, Greencastle, told Officer Nick Eastham he was backing his 2012 Ford Fusion from his Wood Street driveway when, as he started to enter to street, he observed another vehicle coming from the south at a high rate of speed after blowing through the stop sign at Wood and Seminary streets.

In an attempt to avoid being struck, Lady reportedly gunned the vehicle, crossing Wood Street and ending up on Gardenside Drive where he struck a westbound 2010 Buick Enclave, driven by Jane Hansen, 70, Greencastle.

Hansen said she was unable to avoid being struck by the Lady car.

Total damage in the collision was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

Both drivers declined medical treatment at the scene.

Lady was ticketed for operating a vehicle without financial responsibility.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated the following recent property-damage crashes:

• At 9:10 p.m. on Saturday, Ashley J. Sayre, 27, Brazil, was southbound on County Road 775 East in a 2005 Honda Accord when it left the road.

Sayre’s car ran off the west side of the road, making contact with a bridge guardrail and continuing along until it snapped off an approximately eight-foot section and then turning sharply to the left, avoiding a road sign.

Deputy Robert Soilleux reported the vehicle then crossed the road completely and entered the opposite ditch, striking a fiber optic box and then hitting several trees before coming to a stop.

Sayre was trapped inside until first responders could free her from the wreckage. She was later airlifted to the hospital for treatment.

Soilleux reported that Sayre reported strongly of alcoholic beverage and refused to tell him what happened, instead saying, “It’s all my fault. It’s all my fault.”

Sayre’s husband also arrived on the scene, with Soilleux saying he also smelled of alcohol. He said they had been hanging out with friends all day before his wife left to run some errands. He conjectured that she wrecked because she did not know the roads.

A witness said he did not see the crash, but heard it, saying there were no braking sounds, just a very loud crash.

Sayre was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Soilleux estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000. The car was towed.

• At 4:05 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, Aiden Devlin, 18, Coatesville, was northbound on County Road 825 East in a 2013 Mercedes-Benz C25.

Devlin was approaching a 90-degree turn to the left. He told Cpl. Scott Ducker he did not slow down quickly enough and the brakes locked up, so he skidded off the roadway and down an embankment.

Ducker estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to one incident in the week:

• At 10:19 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to the Percy L. Julian Science and Mathematics Center at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:23 and were advised by maintenance that the fire panel was being worked on. The alarm system could not be reset and was turned over to DePauw staff for repairs. GFD went back into service at 10:40 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed nine medical assists, had one disregard and found no incident on one run before this dispatch.
