Gerald Wayne ‘Bud’ Sharp

Gerald Wayne “Bud” Sharp, 75, of Greencastle, passed away on July 10, 2022 at Mill Pond Health Campus.

Bud was born on Jan. 15, 1947 in rural Clay County near Coal City, the son of Harold Wayne and Opal Naoma (Nicoson) Sharp.

He was a 1965 graduate of Reelsville High School and attended Vincennes University and Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis.

He had been employed at DePauw University, IBM, G.C. Murphy Co. in Greencastle, Madison, Ind., and Effingham, Ill., for more than six years. He retired from Cinergy in 2001 after more than 30 years, working mostly in Plainfield. He owned a small hauling company and was a part time farmer raising calves and various poultry.

Bud was a very active community leader in Sycamore Trails Resource Conservation and Development Council, Putnam County Democrats and Reelsville Water Authority. He was a former member of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Merit Board and a former member of the Moose Lodge in Greencastle.

On Oct. 10, 1987 he married his late wife Carolyne E. (Nelson) Sharp. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sons and a great-grandchild.

Bud is survived by his brother, Roger (Ursula) Sharp; nephew Robert (Brandi) Sharp; nieces Jessie (Joey) Wilson and Amy (Michael) Burkes; granddaughter Erica (Tim) Waddell and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 14 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home. Private Graveside services will be held at the Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery.
