Brazil Concert Band featuring ‘Broadway, Frogs and Pirates’

BRAZIL — The Brazil Concert Band, with Director Matthew Huber, will present “Broadway, Frogs and Pirates” Sunday, July 17 in Forest Park at 8 p.m., rain or shine.

This week’s show will include “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” arranged by James Ployhar and “A Salute to Spike Jones,” with his renditions of “Cocktails for Two,” “Chloe” and a comical twist to “Poet and Peasant Overture” in a setting by Calvin Custer.

“The Golden Age of Broadway” will highlight musicals by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II to include “South Pacific,” “Oklahoma!,” “The King and I” and “The Sound of Music” in an arrangement by John Moss and “Marching Up Broadway” arranged by Robert Lowden with “Cabaret,” “Hey, Look Me Over” and “Consider Yourself.”

A favorite show medley, “Fiddler on the Roof” arranged by John Warrington, will be featured, as well as two marches by John Philip Sousa in “The New York Hippodrome” and “Who’s Who in the Navy Blue.”

From Disney will come “Pirates of the Caribbean” arranged by Ted Ricketts, as well as “The Walking Frog” by Karl L. King, which was a favorite of the late Harold Plunkett, who was a World War II waist gunner in the Army Air Corps.

Rounding out this week’s show will be “Angel Eyes” arranged by Carroll DeCamp and “Clarinets Allegro” by Frank Cofield.

The concession stand will be run by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary with a chicken noodle dinner.
