County Jail

Twelve people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 8:35 p.m. Thomas L. Gorham Sr., 42, Greencastle, was booked in for battery, domestic battery, resisting law enforcement and driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

• At 7:14 p.m. Ronald L. Knight, 75, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

• At 4:48 p.m. Terra N. (Adkins) Cooksey, 37, Greencastle, was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine.

• At 5:09 a.m. Charles W. McCarty, 47, Clay City, was housed at the jail for forgery.

• At 4:49 a.m. Chelsea R. Gallagher, 30, Mooresville, was booked in for driving with a Schedule I or II substance in the body and driving while intoxicated.

Saturday

• At 9:45 p.m. Matthew L. Mensch, 35, Coatesville, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

• At 6:27 p.m. Kevin M. Bain, 36, Quincy, was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine and driving with an ACE of .08 or more.

• At 5:47 a.m. Cory E. Smith, 37, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on an out-of-county warrant.

Friday

• At 3:34 p.m. Jeremy L. Newgent, 44, Greencastle, was booked in for domestic battery, strangulation, criminal recklessness and invasion of privacy.

Thursday

• At 6:44 p.m. Michael C. Oldham, 32, Fillmore, was lodged at the jail for invasion of privacy.

• At 6:31 p.m. Kellsey L. Keyt, 25, Greencastle, was taken into custody for theft and probation violation.

• At 2:44 p.m. Andrew L. Prouse, 24, Paris, Ill., was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated endangering a person.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• At 4:55 p.m. on Saturday, Harry Stemm, 44, Greencastle, was westbound on Airport Road in a 2002 Mercury Cougar.

Stemm told Deputy Todd Hopkins he ran off the road, overcorrected, crossed over to the eastbound lane, overcorrected again, crossed the westbound lane again and ran off the road.

The car came to rest in the westbound ditch, facing back east. Two tires were flat from the wreck.

The car was towed. Hopkins estimated damage at less than $1,000.

• At 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Vickie S. Riddle, 57, California City, Calif., was eastbound on Interstate 70 in a 2012 Ford E-350 van when she fell asleep.

The vehicle ran into the median and into the cable barrier.

The van was towed. Deputy Hopkins estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to five incidents since Thursday evening:

• At 6:50 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to the area of 3997 S. CR 275 East for a tree in the roadway. Firefighters found the tree at 7 p.m. and removed it. GFD went back into service at 7:06 p.m.

• At 8:10 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was called to Robe-Ann Park for a drone stuck in a tree. Firefighters arrived with GFD’s aerial truck at 8:14 and removed the drone. GFD went back into service at 8:40 p.m.

• At 9:40 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to the Heartland Automotive facility for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:47 and were advised that the alarm was due to dust from cleaning and that the system was already reset. GFD went back into service at 9:59 a.m.

• At 8:48 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Chiyoda USA Corp. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:54 and were advised that the alarm system was being worked on. The system was to be in trouble mode but was activated. The system could not be reset. GFD went back into service at 9:16 a.m.

• At 2:36 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to the DePauw University duplexes at 109 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:40 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 2:46 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed eight medical assists and had one disregard during this timeframe.
