Fair parade set Sunday

Friday, July 15, 2022

Themed “4-H: Planting the Seeds for Success,” the 2022 Putnam County Fair Parade is set for Sunday, July 17.

Launching at 2 p.m., the parade will travel westward down Washington Street toward downtown Greencastle, ending at Indiana Street.

Longtime Putnam County Fair Board member Gene Grable will serve as grand marshal of the festivities.

While the parade itself remains on Washington Street for the entire route, a number of other streets will be closed or restricted before and during the parade.

A list of closures and times is as follows:

1. East Washington Street and adjoining neighborhoods will close at noon.

2. Side streets along the parade route such as Arlington, Durham, Locust, Spring, College, Vine and Indiana will be closed near the parade route at 1 pm.

3. U.S. 231/Bloomington Street will close at 1 p.m. Motorists may use Veterans Memorial Highway and Jackson Street as a detour.

Additionally, there will be no parking on either side of Franklin Street on Sunday due to its use as a return route for many of the parade entries.

Some of the closures are due to staging before the parade. Participants will be sent to one of the following areas: Washington Street (east of Wood Street/Indianapolis Road intersection), Gardenside Drive, Indianapolis Road, Robe-Ann Park and Greencastle High School and McAnally Center parking lots.

While all parade attendees are urged to keep the route clean by taking trash and personal items with them afterward, volunteers helping with clean-up will include the Greencastle Civic League, Bethel Baptist Church, Greencastle Christian Church, Putnam County Comprehensive Services, the Knights of Columbus and Kustom Detailing Landscaping and Excavating.
