Amelia Oreile Stedman

Amelia Oreile Stedman, 93, of Greencastle, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 15, 2022 at Mill Pond Health Campus.

Amelia was born in Terre Haute on Aug. 5, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Amelia (LaLoux) Lemont, and was a graduate of Rankin School in Terre Haute.

She married Virgil Stedman on Feb. 24, 1944.

Mrs. Stedman was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #291 in Terre Haute, Marion Extension Homemakers Club and National Railroaders Camping Association.

Amelia was an avid crafter but crocheting was her favorite, winning many blue ribbons at the fair. Her greatest love was her family.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald A Stedman (wife Lola) of Moweaqua, Ill., and John R. Stedman (wife Diana) of Decatur, Ill.; two daughters, Teresa Bunning of Latham, Ill., and Sally Hendricks (husband Jim) of Greencastle; nine grandchildren, Carrie Stedman, Sarah Major (husband Seth), Seth Stedman, Lindsey Stedman, Collin Stedman (wife Amanda), Jessica Stearley (husband Troy), Zachery Wood (wife Melissa), Ryan Stedman and Mark Stedman; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and love of her life, Virgil Stedman Sr.; a son, Virgil Stedman Jr.; three brothers, Joseph Henry Lemont, Paul E. Lemont and Robert C. Lemont Sr.; a grandson, Cody Bunning; a great-grandson, Jordon Bunning; and a son-in-law, Mike Bunning.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 at Harris Hall at the Putnam County Fairgrounds. Visitation will be held one hour prior to time of service.
