County Jail

Several people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 3:40 a.m. Taylor M. Holland, 24, Paragon, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated with a prior.

Sunday

• At 1:24 a.m. Andrea R. Spitler, 42, Clinton, was booked in on a local warrant.

Saturday

• At 6:37 p.m. Melanie A. Stout, 35, Marshall, Ill., was lodged at the jail for possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia with a prior conviction.

• At 1:39 a.m. Shaunna L. McIntire, 21, Terre Haute, was housed at the jail on a warrant.

Friday

• At 2:54 p.m. Joseph C. Rossetti Jr., 30, Cloverdale, was booked in on a warrant.

• At 3:26 p.m. Brittany A. Hostetler, 31, Poland, was lodged at the jail for unlawful possession of a syringe, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

Thursday

• At 10:42 a.m. Chelsea M. Trammell, 29, Greencastle, was booked in on a Morgan County warrant.

City Police

Three recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 2:13 p.m. Saturday, James E. Bartlett, 50, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Zach Rhine.

Taken into custody at Big Walnut Sports Park, Bartlett was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for aggravated battery, battery on law enforcement, resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and theft.

• At 12:43 p.m. Friday, James D. Cooper, 39, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Rhine.

Taken into custody at McDonald’s on Indianapolis Road, Cooper was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and a Putnam County warrant for failure to appear in court on an original charge of possession of marijuana.

• At 4:10 p.m. Thursday, Austin R. Chadd, 28, Poland, was arrested by Capt. Chris Jones.

Taken into custody at an East Washington Street address, Chadd was housed at the jail for possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a syringe.

Four persons were issued summons by city officers recently:

• At 11:20 p.m. Sunday, Michael Travioli, 57, Greencastle, was issued a summons by Luke Brown.

Stopped at Bloomington and Martinsville streets, Travioli was issued a summons into court for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

• At 11:11 p.m. Saturday, Harley Tincher, 22, Reelsville, was issued a summons by Officer Brown.

Stopped along Veterans Memorial Highway, Tincher was issued a summons into court for possession of marijuana.

• At 12:48 p.m. July 12, Madelyn Renihan, 20, Coatesville, was issued a summons by Officer Brown.

Stopped at Jackson and Columbia streets, Renihan, a passenger, was cited for possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 12:48 p.m. July 12, Shawn Weston, 21, Greencastle, was issued a summons by Officer Brown.

Stopped at Jackson and Columbia streets, Weston, the driver, was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

One recent citation was issued by city officers:

• At 7:13 p.m. July 12, Marcus Ward, 24, Fillmore, was ticketed by Officer Brown.

Stopped on Indiana Street, Ward was cited for having an expired license plate.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated five recent property-damage crashes.

• At 8:04 p.m. on Saturday, Monica C. Reed, 48, Cloverdale, was southbound on County Road 250 East when she failed to negotiate a turn in a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta.

Deputy Robert Soilleux reported that Reed simply failed to make the right turn and drove of the road, crossing two yards before re-entering the road and coming to a stop.

Reed said she was unfamiliar with the road as well as distracted because she was arguing with the front-seat passenger. The passenger added that there was no warning sign of the curve.

However, Soilleux noted that there was a curve sign advising a 25 mph recommended speed.

The car was towed. Soilleux estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 6:28 a.m. on Saturday, Klint C. Crawford, 55, Brownsburg, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2013 Cadillac Escalade pulling a 2000 Bass Tracker boat when he hit a deer.

Impact with the animal flipped it over his SUV, where it also made contact with and damaged the boat.

Cpl. Brian Helmer estimated damages at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 7:29 p.m. on Friday, Matthew J. Meuser, 41, Plainfield, was eastbound on U.S. 40 in a 2020 Buick Envision when he hit a deer.

Deputy Soilleux estimated damage at $25,000-$50,000.

• At 4:50 p.m. on Thursday, Katei M. Cummins, 26, Coatesville, was backing a 2017 Dodge Ram 4500 Putnam County EMS ambulance into the bay at the Cloverdale station.

Cummins told Deputy Todd Hopkins she was unaware that the bay door had gotten stuck and she backed into it. The ambulance was not damaged and the door sustained only minor damage.

Hopkins estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four incidents since Friday morning:

• At 12:18 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 408 W. Franklin St. for an outside recreational burn. Firefighters arrived at 12:22 and were advised of the city burn ordinance. Firefighters went back into service at 12:31 a.m.

• At 9:44 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Alpha Tau Omega on the DePauw University campus for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:49 and determined the alarm was due to construction. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 9:51 a.m.

• At 6:59 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the intersection of County Road 100 North and Acorn Drive for a tree in the roadway. Firefighters found the tree at 7:08 p.m. and removed it. GFD went back into service at 7:57 p.m.

• At 1:08 p.m. on Monday, GFD received a direct call for a cat trapped in the dash of a car at 679 N. U.S. 231. Firefighters arrived at 1:16 and freed the cat. GFD went back into service at 1:30 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed four medical assists during this timeframe.
