James Richard ‘Dick’ Crosby

James Richard “Dick” Crosby, 87, of Roachdale, went to his heavenly home on the morning of July 18, 2022.

He was born on July 30, 1934 in Crawfordsville to the late Robert and Jean (Heighway) Crosby.

He married Cora Elizabeth “Liz” Wilson on Aug. 30, 1959 in Crawfordsville.

Dick graduated from Roachdale High School with the class of 1952.

After graduation, he began his lifelong career working in telecommunications. He first worked at Thomas Telephone in Roachdale, then General Telephone in Greencastle and lastly Verizon until retirement in 1991.

Dick enjoyed trapshooting, was an avid fan of Purdue basketball and football and loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the Roachdale Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years and the Masonic Lodge for 60 years.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Liz; daughter Julie Ann Heron of Crawfordsville; grandson Reece Thomas Heron of Chicago; granddaughter Jenny Elizabeth Heron of Crawfordsville, sisters-in-law Lola Crosby of Roachdale, Gloria (Dick) German of Crawfordsville, Beverly (Larry) Hartle of Crawfordsville, Deborah (Tom) DeFreitas of Fort Payne, Ala., and Phyllis Neff of Festus, Mo.; and brother-in-law Winston (Gini) Wilson of Crawfordsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Tom Heron; brother John Crosby; and brothers-in-law Joe Wilson and John Neff.

Funeral service will be at noon on Saturday, July 23 at the Roachdale Presbyterian Church, 14 N. Indiana St., Roachdale, with Pastor David Bower officiating. Burial will follow in Roachdale Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
