Peace Lutheran welcomes new pastor
Peace Lutheran Church welcomed its new pastor Sunday afternoon at an installation ceremony and reception attended by five celebrant pastors and the church’s congregation
Pastor William John “Bill” Winter becomes the seventh minister of Word and Sacrament at the south side Missouri Synod Lutheran Church located at 1421 S. Bloomington St. He comes to Greencastle with wife, Maggie, and children — Rosyn, Aisling and Gideon — ages 8 to 15.
Pastor Bill graduated this past spring from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne. Prior to attending divinity school, he served as combat medic/paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne Division, U.S. Army.
Sunday’s formal installation service was officiated by Brownsburg Pastor Chris Truelsen, with participation from Lutheran pastors Paul Gaschler (Greenwood), Eric Ebb (Mooresville), Dennis Ouellette (interim pastor at Peace Lutheran Church) and Alan Barber (former long-time pastor of Peace Lutheran Church).
Greencastle’s Lutheran church was established in 1956 and moved in 2005 to its present location which occupies more than 20 acres along U.S. 231. Sunday services begin at 10:15 a.m. Bible studies are Sundays at 9 a.m. and Wednesdays at 10 a.m.
Peace Lutheran, like other Missouri Synod congregations, adheres to Martin Luther’s proclamation of Solo Scriptura — scripture alone as final authority for all matters of faith and morals (because of its inspiration, authority, clarity, efficacy and sufficiency).
In addition to church school, Peace Lutheran has excellent facilities and trained staff for early childcare, six weeks through pre-K. Cynthia Pienta is the school’s director.
Church elders are David Livesay, Ken Anderson, Dean Richmond, Eddie Yon and Jim Harmon. Church council president is Harry Maginity.
