Railroad repairs to temporarily close North Jackson Street

Thursday, July 28, 2022

North Jackson Street (U.S. 231) will temporarily close next month -- yes, the fair will be over by then -- between West Elizabeth Street and Shadowlawn Avenue for railroad work in Greencastle, the Indiana Department of Transportation has announced.

Crews will be repaving and replacing ties at the tracks on the north side of the city starting on Saturday, Aug. 20.

The closure will continue until the end of August, weather permitting.

The official detour follows U.S. 231 to State Road 240 to SR 75 to U.S. 36. and back to U.S. 231.

INDOT reminds motorists to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a work zone.

  • So they are closing the railroad crossing and using SR240 as detour while chip sealing 240, lol.

  • My official detour will be College Avenue or Madison Street.

  • According to the Putnam County Sheriff's Facebook post the road may or may not be closed- last post seems to indicate it has been delayed. I guess at some point the Railroad will start work and you will have to take some detour.
