County Jail

One person was booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Tuesday

• At 12:56 a.m. Jerry A. Williams, 46, Roachdale, was lodged at the jail for theft.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City police officers:

• At 12:13 a.m. Thursday, Clifton Tuell, 57, Cloverdale, was arrested by Officer Alec Pettit.

Taken into custody at Shadowlawn Avenue and North Jackson Street, Tuell was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and a Putnam County warrant for failure to appear in court on the original charge of driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

One summons was issued recently by city officers:

• At 10:48 p.m. Monday, Lane Sumners, 19, Greencastle, was issued a summons by Officer Luke Brown.

Stopped along Veterans Memorial Highway, Sumners was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

Sheriff’s Office

Several people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

• At 5:11 p.m. on Monday, Laura E. Worthington, 25, Cloverdale, was westbound on County Road 850 South in a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire when she ran off the road, hitting a sign and cement bridge embankment before coming to rest in the ditch.

The car was towed. Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 6:16 p.m. on Sunday, Cole D. Whetsel, 20, Greencastle, was eastbound on State Road 240 in a 2005 Saturn Ion.

It was raining at the time, and Whetsel lost control on the west road, leaving the north side of the road and going down an embankment, where it came to rest against a tree.

Reserve Deputy Joe Tesmer estimated damage at $2,500-$10,000.

• At 9:56 p.m. on Friday, July 22, David G. Pruett, 63, Spencer, was traveling on State Road 42 in the area of the County Road 75 East intersection when he lost control of his 2008 Harley Davidson Street Glide and left the road.

Upon the arrival of Deputy Todd Hopkins, Pruett was being evaluated by medics, as he had suffered a head injury in the crash and had to be airlifted to a hospital. Hopkins was unable to speak to Pruett.

Hopkins spoke to the property owner, who had called in the crash. She said Pruett had been unconscious and snoring when she approached him.

A firefighter also approached Hopkins and told him Pruett had woken up and admitted he had been drinking. Hopkins stated in his report he was conducting an operating while intoxicated investigation, with results pending from a hospital blood test.

The motorcycle was towed. Hopkins estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to 11 incidents since Sunday evening:

• At 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 1815 W. CR 25 South for a tree into a house. Firefighters arrived at 5:36 and while no one was hurt, they made sure there were no electrical hazards. GFD went back into service at 5:45 p.m.

• At 5:23 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 925 N. Madison St. for an electrical hazard. Firefighters arrived at 5:53 and found tree in power lines. Duke Energy was called and the Greencastle Police Department remained. GFD went back into service at 6:01 p.m.

• At 5:23 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was notified of power lines down at the Putnam County Fairgrounds. Firefighters found a tent that had blown into the power lines and notified those in the area to evacuate. Firefighters then surveyed the fairgrounds for damage before going back into service at 6:27 p.m.

• At 5:25 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched for a tree in the roadway on North U.S. 231. Firefighters went out at about 5:30 but found that the tree had been removed. GFD went back into service at 5:40 p.m.

• At 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 600 Sherwood Dr. for a possible tree in a power line. Firefighters arrived at 5:35 but did not find this as such. GFD went back into service at 5:40 p.m.

• At 5:51 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 809 Gardenside Dr. for a power line down. Firefighters arrived at 6:01 p.m. and found that no power lines were in the roadway. GFD went back into service at 6:02 p.m.

• At 6:03 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the beef barn at the Putnam County Fairgrounds for a smell of propane. Firefighters arrived at 6:04 and did not find any leak. GFD went back into service at 6:15 p.m.

• At 6:28 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the area of 1500 S. CR 200 West for a tree in the roadway. Firefighters arrived at 6:33 and removed the tree. Another tree was found in a nearby block. GFD went back into service at 6:40 p.m.

• At 6:47 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the corner of Northwood Boulevard and Franklin Street for a power line down. Firefighters found the power line at 6:50 and blocked the area until the Greencastle Street Department arrived with barricades. GFD went back into service at 7:17 p.m.

• At 2:18 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 1216 S. Bloomington St. for a possible structure fire. Firefighters arrived at 2:25 and found that a washer belt had burned, causing the washer to emit smoke. The washer was removed. GFD went back into service at 2:52 p.m.

• At 6:25 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident without injuries at the corner of Washington and Locust streets. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 6:28 and cleaned debris from the roadway. GFD went back into service at 6:38 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed four medical assists and had three disregards during this timeframe.
