County Jail

Seventeen people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 6:16 a.m. Jacinda A. Batchelor, 35, Brazil, was housed at the jail on a Fountain County warrant.

Wednesday

• At 11:07 p.m. Teresa L. Lansing, 59, Poland, was booked in for possession of methamphetamine.

• At 8:38 p.m. Charles T. Bentley, 31, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a warrant.

• At 6:06 p.m. Christina N. Kerr, 38, Greencastle, was taken into custody for driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction and on a Clay County warrant.

• At 2:01 p.m. Belissa R. O’Conner, 38, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a warrant.

• At 11:31 a.m. Timothy L. Miller, 52, Greencastle, was booked in for resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct, intimidation and public intoxication.

Tuesday

• At 8:01 p.m. Sarah E. Lange, 42, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for driving with an ACE of .15 or more.

• At 2:54 p.m. Ashleigh L. Hamm, 32, Coatesville, was taken into custody on a petition to revoke bond.

• At 2:26 p.m. Joshua J. Carter, 38, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail for probation violation.

• At 10:15 a.m. Amber N. Dreiman, 39, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail for driving a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator.

• At 5:26 a.m. Joshua D. Ellington, 23, Cloverdale, was booked in for possession of methamphetamine.

• At 4:59 a.m. Dennis L. Kent, 45, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail for possession of methamphetamine.

•At 12:10 a.m. Kevin M. Bippus, 35, Indianapolis, was taken into custody on a warrant.

Monday

• At 8:58 p.m. Darrell R. Skinner, 39, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a writ of body attachment.

• At 7:45 p.m. Matthew R. Hubbard, 37, Roachdale, was booked in on a warrant.

• At 4:37 p.m. Bambi L. Bicknell, 49, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail on a warrant.

• At 1:37 p.m. Brandon S. Wingler, 34, Coatesville, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated resulting in serious bodily injury and driving with an ACE of .15 or more.

• At 1:30 p.m. Patricia J. Linville, was housed at the jail on a warrant.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated five recent property-damage crashes.

• At 7:19 p.m. on Friday, July 29, Brandon M. Fitzsimmons, 18, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2012 Toyota Camry. Max Secrest, 25, Quincy, was attempting to exit Edgelea Drive onto 231 in a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado.

Fitzsimmons told Deputy Josh Deal that as he attempted to pass Edgelea Drive, he noticed Secrest’s pickup entering his lane of travel and could not avoid a collision, with Secrest striking the passenger side of his car.

Deal noted that while speaking with Secrest, he noted the smell of alcohol. He submitted to a portable breath test but refused a certified test.

He was booked in the Putnam County Jail at 9:02 p.m.

Fitzsimmons’ vehicle had to be towed.

Deal estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

•At 3:15 p.m. on Friday, July 29, David S. Ross, 29, Greencastle, was backing out of a parking spot at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

Ross told Maj. Dwight Simmons he did not know a vehicle had pulled into a parking spot directly behind him, backing into the passenger side door.

The damaged vehicle is a 2012 Chevrolet Cruz registered to Ashley N. Abney, Greencastle.

Simmons estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 12:40 a.m. on Thursday, July 28, Gavin M. Folck, 17, Coatesville, was stopped westbound on County Road 500 North at U.S. 231, attempting to turn south in a 2012 Ford Focus. Philip J. Nowling, 64, Plainfield, was stopped eastbound at the intersection, attempting to proceed straight in a 2008 Dodge Challenger.

When traffic cleared, both vehicles proceeded into the intersection, with Folck hitting the left rear of Nowling’s vehicle.

Neither driver was injured. Nowling’s vehicle had to be towed.

Deputy Derek Line estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, Rebecca Kelly, 30, Roachdale, was attempting to turn left from southbound U.S. 231 into the Putnam County Fairgrounds in a 2008 Jeep Commander. Erin Flick, 45, Brazil, was northbound on 231 in a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse.

Deputy Randy Patrick noted that Kelly failed to yield right of way and turned into the path of Flick’s vehicle.

While both vehicles had significant damage, they were able to be driven from the scene.

Patrick estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to nine incidents since Monday morning:

• At 8:47 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched for a tree in the roadway on West Walnut Street. Firefighters found the tree at 8:50 and cut and removed it. GFD went back into service at 9:04 a.m.

• At 9:01 a.m. on Monday, GFD was notified of a power line down at 3395 S. CR 300 West. Coming from the previous run, firefighters arrived at 9:21 and found Duke Energy already there. GFD went back into service at 9:28 p.m.

• At 11:04 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched for a tree hanging on a transformer at 413 S. Jackson St. Firefighters arrived at 11:08 and found a branch on a line and a transformer that was smoking, but not on fire. Duke Energy had already been called by a homeowner, and GFD went back into service at 11:09 a.m.

• At 11:25 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Greencastle High School for a gas leak. Firefighters arrived at 11:29 after a contractor digging on Washington Street struck a gas line. They checked nearby homes and remained until Miller Pipeline came to secure the line. GFD went back into service at 2:35 p.m.

• At 12:58 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Minshall House at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:59 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:02 p.m.

• At 2:23 p.m. on Monday, GFD drove up on a tree in the roadway on West Seminary Street. Firefighters cut it up and removed it. GFD went back into service at 2:25 p.m.

• At 5:01 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Lucy Rowland Hall at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:06 and determined the alarm was due to a dirty stove. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 5:13 p.m.

• At 8:56 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Kappa Alpha Theta at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:59 and determined the alarm was due to a wet detector head. GFD went back into service at 9:15 p.m.

• At 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:35 p.m. and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 10:47 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed four medical assists, had three disregards and found no incident on one dispatch during this timeframe.
