County Jail

Nine people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 1:08 a.m. Nicholas A. Guyton, 36, Seelyville, was lodged at the jail for criminal conversion and driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

Sunday

• At 11:33 p.m. David D. Phillips, 50, Roachdale, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated.

Saturday

• At 7:51 p.m. Aaron P. Lipps, 30, Avon, was housed at the jail for leaving the scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated.

• At 3:17 a.m. Donald N. Bedwell Jr., 67, Carlisle, was booked in for possession of a controlled substance and possession of methamphetamine.

Friday

• At 9:06 p.m. Ryan M. Evens, 41, Bainbridge, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 7:12 p.m. Trevor D. Marksberry, 27, Cloverdale, was taken into custody for public indecency.

• At 2:24 a.m. Blake T. Ross, 27, Brazil, was housed at the jail for invasion of privacy.

Thursday

• At 11:49 p.m. Billy R. Buehler, 38, Greencastle, was booked in for driving with a suspended license.

• At 12:34 p.m. William J. Taylor, 59, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a Hendricks County warrant.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 6:47 a.m. on Saturday, Delmar L. Graber, 35, Montgomery, was northbound on U.S. 231 near County Road 1000 North in a 2022 Kia K5 when he hit a deer.

Sgt. Riley Houghton estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 4:41 a.m. on Thursday, Christopher W. Calvert, 50, Greencastle, was westbound on U.S. 40 near County Road 725 East in a 2014 Nissan Sentra when he hit a deer.

Deputy Josh Deal estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000. The vehicle had to be towed.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to 11 incidents since Thursday morning:

• At 11:36 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to 941 Deer Field Dr. for an odor of gas. Firefighters arrived at 11:43 and could not detect gas inside the residence. The homeowner said they would contact maintenance. GFD went back into service at 11:59 a.m.

• At 1:40 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Alpha Chi Omega at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:45 and could not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:53 p.m.

• At 5:35 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to the area of Berry and Crown streets for a loud explosion. Firefighters came at 5:41 and did not identify any potential cause for the sound. GFD went back into service at 5:54 p.m.

• At 6:31 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to the area of 128 Indianapolis Rd. for a motor vehicle incident. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 6:36 and were advised of no injuries or fluid leakage. GFD went back into service at 6:56 p.m.

• At 5:46 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to the Percy L. Julian Science and Mathematics Center at DePauw for a hot smell. Firefighters arrived at 5:53 and found no potential source for a smell. Maintenance was called, and GFD went back into service at 6:24 p.m.

• At 12:02 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to the chiller plant at 7 E. Larabee St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:06 and found that a smoke detector was dirty. The detector was replaced, and GFD went back into service at 12:14 p.m.

• At 7:08 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 1280 N. Jackson St. for a grass fire. Firefighters arrived at 7:11 and extinguished the fire. GFD went back into service at 7:15 p.m.

• At 5:34 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 123 Woods Edge Blvd. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:40 and could not determine a cause for the alarm. GFD went back into service at 6:04 a.m.

• At 3:21 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 3645 S. CR 200 West for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:29 and could not determine a cause for the alarm. GFD went back into service at 3:54 p.m.

• At 5:04 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:08 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 5:26 p.m.

• At 7:04 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Wilson House at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:08 and could not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 7:14 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed nine medical assists and had one disregard during this timeframe.
