Tucker Gray
Tucker Gray, 86, formerly of Greencastle, passed away on Aug. 7, 2022 in Winter Haven, Fla.
He was born on March 17, 1936 in Washington, D.C., to Lanier and Beverly (Rittenhouse) Gray.
After graduating from Shorewood (Wisconsin) High School in 1955, Tucker enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served in the Mediterranean on USS Haynsworth. He had an incredible sense of pride for serving his country.
In 1957, he enrolled at Lincoln (Illinois) Junior College where he met Joann (Todd) Gray, and on Aug. 13, 1960, at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church, they were married.
After living in Milwaukee and Cincinnati, Tucker started his hardware career at Todd’s Ace Hardware in 1964, owning the business from 1979-1987. With an ever-present sense of humor, he developed the catch phrase “Tucker’s talkin’” when he would answer the phone at the store. After selling the business, Tucker worked for Superior Distributing in Indianapolis until his retirement in 2001.
During retirement, Tucker and Joann relocated to Winter Haven, Fla., where he enjoyed playing golf, participating in the fun band, singing in the choir and telling a joke or two.
His greatest accomplishment was his family, and he was a very proud husband, father and grandfather.
Tucker is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joann; his children, Todd (Teresa) and Kimberly (Ted) Dulaney; and his grandchildren, Nathan, Liz, Lexi and TJ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and many aunts and uncles.
Memorial services will be private and held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Tucker’s memory may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 450 Arneson Ave., Auburndale, FL 33882.
