Dr. Ricardo Young

Senior Education Ministries will present the first Dine with a Doc program since 2020 on Monday, Aug. 22 from 10 a.m.-noon at Putnam County Hospital.

Dine with a Doc is a free community-based speaking series that welcomes the local senior public to hear about an educational topic while enjoying a complimentary lunch.

This event’s featured speaker will be Dr. Ricardo Young, a general and bariatric surgeon in the hospital’s surgical specialties.

Young was raised in Southeast Michigan and joined the U.S. Army in 1984, with which he was stationed at Fort Stewart in Georgia with the 24th Infantry Division. He spent three-plus years deployed to the Middle East for Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom as both a staff surgeon and a forward surgical team commander.

Young graduated from the Michigan State College of Human Medicine, was in residence at Eisenhower Army Medical Center as a general surgeon and served a fellowship in bariatric and advanced laparoscopy at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.

Young retired from the military in 2017 and was the director of bariatric surgery at Backus Hospital in Norwich, Conn., from then until 2021 before coming to Putnam County.

Young is certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.

A question- and-answer period will follow Young’s presentation.

The complimentary lunch will be provided courtesy of Mill Pond Health Campus.

Various health care providers will be present to share information about their services and provide door prizes for participants.
