BCB to guide musical tour of Midwest, Northeast

BRAZIL — This Sunday, the Brazil Concert Band, directed by Matthew Huber, will present Tour of America-Midwest and Northeast, rain or shine, in Forest Park.

Marches for this week include “Totem Pole” by Eric Osterling, “The Purple Carnival” by Harry Alford, “Band of America” by Paul Lavalle and “Black Hawk Trail” by Brazil’s own J. Gus Davis, named for a camping site in Vigo County that the Davis family enjoyed.

Popular music from the 1930s and 1940s will be performed, including standard pop favorites with “Heartaches,” “The Old Piano Roll Blues” and “Sugar Blues” arranged by Frank Cofield.

Also to be played is “A Melodic Caravan” arranged by Paul Yoder with “I Feel a Song Comin’ On,” “I’m in the Mood for Love,” “It’s a Most Unusual Day,” “Don’t Blame Me” and “Cuban Love Song.”

The band will also feature the Mel Brooks musical comedy “The Producers,” along with Hoosier Hoagy Carmichael’s “Stardust,” Jerry Gray’s “A String of Pearls” and “Aunt Columbia and Uncle Sam” by Stephen Kent Goodman.

The concession stand will be run by the Clay County Soccer Club with Italian beef.

The Jackson Township Community Band will perform at the Old Settlers Picnic in Bowling Green on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 4:30 p.m.

The final summer performance by the Brazil Concert Band will be Sunday, Aug. 28 at the special time of 7:30 p.m.
