City Police

A 48-year-old Greencastle woman was arrested on alcohol-related charges after being involved in a two-car accident on North Jackson Street Tuesday afternoon.

Officer Nick Eastham reported that Tamara R. Allen was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Malibu northbound on Jackson Street when she said traffic in front of her stopped abruptly as she neared Depot Street. Allen was unable to avoid a collision and her car struck a 2014 Toyota Corolla driven by Charity Clark, 40, Terre Haute, who was stopped to turn left onto Depot Street.

Eastham said he could smell alcohol on Allen’s breath and she registered .304 percent under portable breathalyzer testing.

Initially taken to Putnam County Hospital because of her condition, Allen was later lodged at the jail for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and operating with a blood-alcohol concentration of .15 percent or greater.

The accident resulted in an estimated $10,000-$25,000 damage. Both cars had to be towed from the scene.

On additional arrest was reported by city officers:

• At 10:04 p.m. Monday, Cody M. Poissant, 32, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Alec Pettit.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail for domestic battery and strangulation. Poissant was arrested at an Avenue E residence.

Stopped on Veterans Memorial Highway at Putnamville Street, Burris was cited for having no valid license.

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Crystal A. Stidd, 49, Quincy, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2012 Ford F-150 when she hit a deer.

Reserve Deputy Joe Tesmer estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 3:41 p.m. on Saturday Jessica Merchant, 34, Gosport, was eastbound on Interstate 70 approaching the 48-mile marker in a 2022 Hyundai Tucson when she came upon a traffic backup. Chad Morris, 37, Indianapolis, was also eastbound in a 2017 Nissan Titan.

Merchant told Cpl. Scott Ducker she observed traffic slowing down and moving into the left lane, so she did the same, coming to a complete stop behind a semi that had also stopped.

Morris told Ducker he tried to apply his brakes but could not stop fast enough to avoid rear-ending Merchant’s vehicle.

Both vehicles were towed. Ducker estimated damage at $25,000-$50,000.
