PUTNAMVILLE — A Richmond semi driver is dead following a medical emergency on Interstate 70 near the Putnam-Clay county line Friday morning.

First responders were dispatched at about 7:40 a.m. for a motor vehicle incident with injuries near the 30-mile marker. It was determined that Jeffrey Peters, 54, was traveling westbound in his 2018 Volvo semi when he went into the median. The truck, however, remained upright.

Master Trooper Ted Robertson arrived on the scene at about 7:47 and administered treatment with an AED. The Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department and Putnam County EMS arrived later and assisted, but Peters could not be revived.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Matt Ames related to the Banner Graphic that the rig was registered to 10 Roads Express, a trucking company based in Indianapolis.

The Putnam County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene. Meanwhile, traffic on the interstate was not hindered.

Curtis Wrecker was called to pick up the semi. As such, the scene was cleared by 9:20 a.m.

The investigating officer was Master Trooper David Furnas.
