Terry Clifford, the 2022 Indiana State Fair Board president, life-long farmer and friend of agriculture and a life-long resident of Belle Union, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022 at the age of 71 on his beloved farm.

Terry is survived by his wife, Yvonne (Polter) Clifford; his mother, Norma (Smith) Clifford and mother-in-law Ruth Polter; his children, Adrianna Clifford and fiancé Logan Ross; Amanda Ferguson, Amber (David) Lightle, Karen Lee Clifford and Sharon (Doug) Clifford; his grandchildren; Zoe Ferguson, Arabella Lightle, Aileana Lightle, David T. Lightle, Savannah Lightle, Dustin Tincher, Nicholas Scott, Dalton Scott and Brooke Bowen. Also, his special dear friend Mark Wingler.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin W. Clifford, and father-in-law Herschel Polter.

Terry was born at Putnam County Hospital on July 6, 1951.

He graduated from Fillmore High School in 1969.

Over his long influential life he ran his feed mill in Cloverdale, farmed, worked for the Indiana State Fair and drove a school bus for South Putnam. He was also president of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Merrit Board for 17 years.

On Dec. 20, 1997 he married his beloved Yvonne.

Terry was a devoted father and pappy. He loved sharing his passion for livestock and farming. There wasn’t a day he didn’t go out of his way to help better the lives of our kids in 4-H and the FFA.

He could talk for hours about his red tractors. There wasn’t a problem he couldn’t solve especially if it involved his ag kids.

He was a spiritual man and involved in many church activities, one being the lead elder at Cloverdale Christian Church. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. at Cloverdale Christian Church, 11961 South State Road 42, Cloverdale. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until service time at the church.

Condolences may be made at www.whitakerfuneralhome.net.

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the scholarship in Terry’s name at https://33523.thankyou4caring.org/
