Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 10:05 p.m. on Tuesday, Connor E. Rojas, 20, Greencastle, was backing out of a space on Judson Court, Greencastle, when his 2013 Dodge Charger struck a parked 2018 GMC Sierra registered to BreadWorks by Bridges.

Deputy Robert Soilleux reported that the BreadWorks truck was parked improperly, with about four feet of the rear end of the vehicle sticking into the travel portion of the road.

Soilleux estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 7:21 a.m. on Tuesday, Kylie Arnold, 17, Fillmore, was eastbound on County Road 100 North in a 2012 Jeep Patriot. Kim R. Hyten, 54, Fillmore, was westbound in a 2009 Nissan Murano.

The two vehicles met at the top of a hill and collided head-on. Arnold told Deputy Joshua Clark she was hugging the center of the road. Clark observed upon his arrival that Arnold’s vehicle was closer to the center of the road, while Hyten’s was closer to the north shoulder.

Both drivers initially refused medical treatment. However, when Hyten called Clark later in the day, he said he was going to the hospital to be checked out for injuries.

Both vehicles were towed. Clark, who was assisted at the scene by Cpl. Brian Helmer, estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 8 a.m. on Monday, Deputy Clark was dispatched to a vehicle off the roadway at County Road 550 West and County Road 1225 South.

In the area, southbound 550 West makes a sharp turn to the east at the same point at which 1225 South intersects with the road and heads to the west.

Clark found a 1998 Ford Mustang had apparently been southbound and continued southbound off the road, hitting a yield sign and entering a cornfield, where it came to a stop with heavy front-end damage and the airbags deployed.

The deputy found no driver around and did not include any owner information in his accident report.

However, a passerby told him that an older lady had come to her house asking for a ride earlier that morning.

The vehicle was towed. Clark estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 1 p.m. on Saturday, Johnathon C. Kashman, 27, Russellville, was westbound on State Road 240 at the intersection with County Road 525 East in a 2005 Dodge Dakota.

Deputy Kyle Lee reported that Kashman’s vehicle left the roadway, where it sideswiped a utility pole and broke a yield sign.

The vehicle was towed. Lee estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.
