BRAZIL – Everything about Wednesday’s boys’ tennis match between South Putnam and Northview was just a bit off for the Eagles.

The match was moved to Northview due to a water main break at South Putnam while the already thin Eagle roster was even smaller due to an illness that day.

Three singles matches went forward with the Knights winning all three in a 5-0 sweep, all three matches ending with 6-0, 6-0 score lines.

Christian Roembke defeated Tanner Smithers at No. 1 singles while Drew Cook defeated Logan Starks at No. 2 singles and Caden Shrader, normally at No. 1 doubles, moved to No. 3 singles to defeat William Schurtter.

“Our guys are playing really well and I was talking with (Northview head coach Emily Goff) about how we need to finish games,” South Putnam head coach Johnnie Briones said. “We’d get to 40-30 and we just can’t quite get them over.

“I’m proud of the way the guys are playing right now. I’m really proud of (Schurtter), a first-time player and freshmen who did a great job tonight.

“It’s been a long week, a tough week,” Briones added. “We get a couple of days off here and hopefully we’ll be ready for Greencastle on Monday.”
