BAINBRIDGE — No occupants, including four small children, were seriously injured in a head-on collision Friday evening east of Bainbridge.

Reports from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office indicate a sleepy driver was the cause of the crash on U.S. 36 in the area of County Road 500 East around 6:30 p.m.

PCSO Reserve Deputy Commander Ken Rozelle reported that Ronad Knox, 43, Indianapolis, had been westbound in a 1998 Cadillac DeVille. A witness in a car following Knox told police the car had been drifting over into the eastbound lane prior to the crash. Knox told police that he had fallen asleep.

Knox’s car eventually drifted into the path of a 2014 Toyota minivan driven by Laura Turner, 35, Bainbridge. Turner could not avoid the head-on collision.

Though the cars were both heavily damaged and had to be towed, no one in either vehicle, including four small children with Turner, appeared to be seriously injured. Rozelle reported that all four children went to the hospital to be checked out further.

Knox suffered the most serious injury, a cut on top of his head.

Rozelle said Knox would be issued two citations, one for driving left of center and one for driving without a valid driver’s license.
