County Jail

Eleven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Saturday

• At 10:50 p.m. Daniel B. Ashby, 27, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail on a warrant.

• At 3:33 a.m. Arthur T. Frankel, 21, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct.

• At 12:56 a.m. Edwin S. Wilson, 25, Terre Haute, was taken into custody on a warrant.

Friday

• At 8:34 p.m. Jerry L. Johnson, 50, Roachdale, was booked in for domestic battery and disorderly conduct.

• At 3:19 p.m. Patrick W. Briski, 28, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 10:55 a.m. David A. Mitchell, 24, Franklin, was taken into custody on a warrant.

• At 3:21 a.m. James B. White, 26, Brazil, was housed at the jail on a warrant.

• At 3:19 a.m. Zachary L. Benassi, 29, Brazil, was booked in on a warrant.

• At 1:05 a.m. Damon R. Edwards, 47, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for driving with a suspended license.

Thursday

• At 11:07 p.m. Lisa A. Woodall, 53, Cloverdale, was taken into custody on a warrant.

• At 9:31 p.m. Ronald M. Rowe, 44, Plainfield, was housed at the jail on an out-of-county warrant.

City Police

Three recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 1:55 a.m. Sunday, Hector Lezama-Vicars, 20, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Angela Taylor.

Taken into custody at a Sherwood Drive residence, Lezama-Vicars was lodged at the Putnam County Jail on charges of residential entry and domestic battery.

• At 12:17 a.m. Friday, John Brickert, 33, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Billy DeWitt.

Taken into custody at a West Berry Street residence, Brickert was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a charge of domestic battery.

• At 8:44 p.m. Thursday, Cody Poissant, 32, Greenastle, was arrested by Capt. Charles Inman.

Taken into custody at Headley Hardware on Indianapolis Road, Poissant was charged with criminal trespass and lodged in the county jail.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 6:47 a.m. on Friday, Chelsey Adams, 29, Coatesville, was westbound on County Road 700 South in a 207 Dodge Durango when three deer walked into the road.

In the foggy weather, Adams could not avoid hitting one of the animals.

Deputy Josh Deal estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 5:22 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, James E. Cram, 88, Brazil, was westbound on U.S. 40 near the U.S. 231 intersection in a 2009 Lincoln MKS.

Cram told Deputy Todd Hopkins he did not know what happened, but that he was westbound and the next thing he knew he was hitting the guardrail.

He could not remember what caused him to run off the roadway. There were no witnesses to the crash.

Cram was released at the scene but was taken to the hospital by his grandson.

The car was towed due to major damage. Hopkins estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to six incidents since Wednesday morning:

• At 10:22 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 16 S. Jackson St. for a gas leak. Firefighters arrived at 10:23 and detected carbon monoxide with a lower explosive limit (LEL). The gas and appliances were secured and it was found that a pilot light on a gas burner was out. The pilot light was reignited after the property was ventilated. GFD went back into service at 10:59 a.m.

• At 12:58 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Phi Kappa Psi at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived soon after and determined the alarm was due to marijuana smoke. DePauw Public Safety was present and the property was ventilated. GFD went back into service at 1:07 a.m.

• At 7:34 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Beta Theta Pi at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:39 and determined the alarm was due to steam. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 8 p.m.

• At 10:09 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to the DePauw-owned duplex at 107 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:13 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 10:16 a.m.

• At 7:53 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 4 East St. for power lines down. Firefighters arrived at 7:58 and found a power line in a tree that was determined to be dead. CenterPoint Energy was contacted, and GFD went back into service at 8:13 p.m.

• At 12:57 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 11 N. Indiana St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:58 and determined the alarm malfunctioned due to a power surge from the overnight thunderstorm. GFD went back into service at 1:15 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed 18 medical assists, had five disregards and found no incident on one run during this timeframe.
