Realtors to host Community Shred Event Sept. 10

Giving local residents and businesses the chance to securely and safely dispose of confidential documents, the annual Community Shred Event will return on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Hosted by the Putnam County Board of Realtors, the event will take place from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Putnam County Fairgrounds. The service is free and open to the public.

Over time, unused documents like medical records, credit card statements and bills can build up in one’s home or office and pose a serious security threat. Ensuring that all of these items are properly disposed of by using document shredding will prevent this personal information from falling into the wrong hands.

Any papers that residents want destroyed securely — tax returns, bank statements and credit cards among others — may be included. Paperclips, small binder clips and staples may be left in place, though participants are asked that no other items are mixed in with the papers, such as large binder clips and plastic folders.

Participants will be asked to follow the guidance of greeters directing traffic flow and stay in their car at all times. Volunteers will unload the materials and insert them into a pre-shred bin.

Once the vehicle is unloaded, attendees may leave immediately or wait until the bin containing their documents have been shredded. All paper is shredded on site during the event.

Businesses are welcome but will be limited to 10 boxes with a minimum donation of $5 per box.

This is a free service to individuals. However, donations are encouraged and will benefit the Putnam County Board of Realtors Scholarship Fund.

Shredding will be peformed by Pro Shred Security. In addition to being hosted by the Board of Realtors, the event is sponsored by Brackney Insurance Group and Earl & Co. CPA.

The Board of Realtors also extended at thank you to the Putnam County Fair Boad for allowing them to facilitate the event.
