No injuries have been reported following a gas leak that led to road closures near DePauw University Wednesday afternoon.

Greencastle firefighters and police officers, as well as DePauw Public Safety and the city street department, were dispatched to the intersection of College Avenue and Walnut Street at about 2:15 p.m. CenterPoint Energy was at the scene and called in the leak, which was underground.

The intersection and the roadways within one block of it were barricaded after gas readings initially registered 90 parts per million. However, wind was minimal without any gusts.

Firefighters checked homes and businesses in the vicinity, as well as the Putnam County Public Library, before being released by CenterPoint at about 3:15 p.m.

Greencastle Fire Capt. Kenny Shepherd told the Banner Graphic that one residence was evacuated due to a slight odor in the basement. The home was ventilated as such.

No cause for the leak has been determined.

CenterPoint was breaking up part of the roadway at the scene to repair the leak by 4 p.m. Wednesday. The intersection was open as of Thursday morning.
