County Jail

Seven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 12:38 a.m. Tom Dloniak, 59, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for public intoxication.

Wednesday

• At 3:04 p.m. Rebecca S. Bruner, 42, Brazil, was booked in for driving with a suspended license.

Tuesday

• At 9:18 p.m. Matthew A. Wright, 45, Palestine, Ill., was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 9:14 p.m. Zachary R. Polk, 44, Vincennes, was housed at the jail for possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 10:58 a.m. Zachary T. Davis, 37, Cloverdale, was booked in for failure to appear.

• At 1:04 a.m. Julio M. Roblero, 34, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for violation of home detention.

Monday

• At 9:10 p.m. Joshua A. Poole, 42, Fillmore, was taken into custody for strangulation and domestic battery.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, Anthony M. B. Jackson, 36, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Billy DeWitt.

Taken into custody at the Marathon station at 1107 Indianapolis Rd., Jackson was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 5:45 a.m. Sept. 9, Melonie Jones, 48, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Jared McDaniel.

Taken into custody at Ascena Retail on State Road 240, Jones was arrested on a Putnam County warrant for failure to appear in court on an original charge of driving with a suspended license with prior offense.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated five recent property-damage crashes.

• At 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Malerie D. Minor, 20, Reelsville, was southbound on County Road 800 West in a 2017 Honda Accord when she hit a deer.

Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 7:51 p.m. on Saturday, Mareena D. Warrick, 19, Brazil, was southbound on U.S. 231 near the intersection of County Road 1100 North in a 2006 Ford Fusion.

Warrick told Deputy Josh Deal her vehicle hydroplaned on the wet road and spun around, coming to rest facing west in the northbound lane with its bumper against a guardrail.

The vehicle had to be towed. Deal estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 3:29 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, Brian Cox, 60, Greencastle, was eastbound on State Road 240 in a 2003 Ford F-150. Cox told Reserve Deputy Joe Tesmer he was slowing down for a passenger car ahead of him that was turning right.

Benjamin N. McHargue, 18, Roachdale, was also eastbound in a 2008 Terex Advance Mixer truck registered to Cash Concrete. McHargue told Tesmer he saw Cox’s pickup truck had slowed and tried to stop, but rear-ended the pickup.

Tesmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, Bradley R. Peters, 29, Paragon, was eastbound on County Road 1300 South near County Road 800 East in a 2010 Jeep Patriot when he hit a deer.

Reserve Deputy Commander Ken Rozelle estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 1:34 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, Shawn T. Mudgett, 40, Greenwood, was eastbound on County Road 1000 North in a 2020 International MV607 box truck.

Mudgett was attempting to go under a railroad viaduct but the vehicle was too tall and he became stuck.

A truck company from Indianapolis was called to the scene to lower the hydraulics of the truck and allow it to pass safely under the overpass. Patrick reported some damage to the top of the truck, totaling $1,000-$2,500. The bridge was not damaged.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to seven incidents since Monday evening:

• At 9:07 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 623 E. Seminary St. for a gas leak. Firefighters arrived at 9:11 and were advised that a stove fire had actually occurred. The homeowner extinguished the fire prior to GFD’s arrival. Gas to the stove was secured, and GFD went back into service at 9:31 p.m.

• At 5:35 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to Beta Theta Pi at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:41 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 5:52 a.m.

• At 12:19 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:24 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 12:35 p.m.

• At 11:48 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to Lucy Rowland Hall at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:53 and determined the alarm was due to spray deodorant. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 12 a.m. Wednesday morning.

• At 8:23 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:26 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:44 a.m.

• At 9:41 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Alpha Tau Omega at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:45 and determined the alarm was due to a dirty smoke detector. The detector head was cleaned and the alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 9:54 a.m.

• At 11:14 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched for a vehicle fire at the intersection of Illinois and Ohio streets. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 11:20 and extinguished the fire, which was in the engine compartment. GFD went back into service at 11:30 a.m.

• At 7:51 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to the intersection of Barrington Drive and County Road 125 East for a downed communication line. Firefighters found the line at 7:56 and removed it from the roadway. GFD went back into service at 8:09 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed nine medical assists and had one disregard during this timeframe.
