Parke REMC aids Putnam CERT

ROCKVILLE -- REMC Multi-County Community Trust has awarded grants totaling more than $12,500 to three area nonprofits through the Operation Round Up program.

The board of trustees granted money to:

-- Putnam County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) was granted $3,576.26 to help purchase supplies for additional shelter kits.

-- Parke County Resource Center, a pantry located in Rosedale, received $4,000 to help purchase needed food and hygiene items to continue serving residents in Parke County and northern Vigo County.

-- Turkey Run Elementary Buddy Bag Program was awarded $5,000 to help provide weekend meals for children who face food insecurities.

Operation Round Up is a voluntary program set up for Parke County REMC consumers, with more than 9,000 participants agreeing to have their monthly electric bills “rounded up” to the nearest dollar each month.

With an average donation of only $6 per year, these contributions are pooled and placed in the Multi-County Community Trust to be awarded to various non-profit groups, organizations and eligible individuals within the Parke County REMC service territory, which includes six counties: Parke, Putnam, Clay, Vigo, Fountain and Montgomery counties.
