County Jail

Ten people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 3:16 a.m. Earl R. Hamilton, 45, homeless, was housed at the jail for strangulation.

Sunday

• At 10:36 a.m. Robert W. Barrett, 56, Martinsville, was lodged at the jail on a Hendricks County warrant.

• At 10:25 a.m. Danielle N. Sebanc, 46, Stilesville, was taken into custody trafficking into a facility, possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

Saturday

• At 9:24 p.m. Daniel G. Tippmann, 38, New Haven, was housed at the jail on a court order.

• At 3:05 p.m. Armondo M. Blakely, 25, Terre Haute, was booked in on a local warrant.

• At 3:57 a.m. Zachary A. Nichols, 23, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail for resisting law enforcement and driving with a suspended license.

• At 2:31 a.m. Taylinn M. Ross-Long, 18, Terre Haute, was taken into custody for auto theft.

Friday

• At 1:07 a.m. Anthony R. Stone, 24, New Castle, was housed at the jail on a court order.

Thursday

• At 7:42 p.m. Kara S. Casey, 32, Martinsville, was booked in on a writ of body attachment.

• At 2:25 p.m. Kristina M. Jones, 36, Brazil, was lodged at the jail on a warrant.

City Police

One weekend arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 1:33 p.m. Sunday, Shawn P. Perkins, 42, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Nick Eastham.

Perkins was taken into custody at Shoe Sensation at Putnam Plaza on Indianapolis Road and booked into the Putnam County Jail for theft.

Perkins allegedly stuffed two pairs of shoes -- one men’s pair and one women’s pair, valued at a total of $145.98 -- down his windbreaker-style pants and attempted to leave the store without paying.

Three individuals were issued a summons recently by city officers:

• At 12:40 a.m. Sunday, Haylee Parrish, 24, Greencastle, was stopped by Officer Jared McDaniel at U.S. 231 and County Road 25 South.

Parrish was issued a summons for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

• At 8:40 p.m. Friday, Sierra Torr, 25, Greencastle, was stopped by Officer Billy DeWitt at Veterans Memorial Highway and Percy Julian Drive.

Torr was issued a summons for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

• At 8:10 p.m. Friday, Taylor Strong, 23, Greencastle, was stopped on East Washington Street by Capt. Charles Inman.

Strong was issued a summons for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 7:05 a.m. on Friday, Daniel C. Black, 38, Greenup, Ill., was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2011 GMC Sierra when he hit a deer.

The truck was towed. Deputy Randy Patrick estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 11:56 p.m. Wednesday, Hope E. Jeffers, 66, Bloomington, was westbound on U.S. 36 in a 2013 Chevrolet Impala when she hit a deer.

Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 7:05 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, Debra G. Meyer, 67, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 just south of County Road 350 South in a 2020 Ford EcoSport when she hit a deer.

The vehicle was towed. Deputy Patrick estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 3:58 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, Dylan E. Serach, 24, Linton, was southbound on Manhattan Road in a 2001 Ford Explorer. Elizabeth L. Fulford, 22, Bloomington, was northbound in a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse.

Serach told Deputy Patrick he left his lane of travel due to slowed traffic, at which point the right front bumper of his vehicle made contact with the left front bumper of Fulford’s.

There was an infant in Fulford’s vehicle who was checked out for possible injuries but released by Putnam County EMS for possible future treatment at the parent’s discretion.

Both vehicles were driven from the scene and there were no further injuries.

Patrick estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four incidents since Thursday afternoon:

• At 4:09 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Sigma Alpha Epsilon at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:10 and were advised that a cellphone battery had caught fire. The fire was extinguished prior to GFD’s arrival. The property was ventilated, and GFD went back into service at 4:34 p.m.

• At 2:22 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 1211 Kersey Ln. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:28 and were advised that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was already off when GFD arrived. GFD went back into service at 2:31 p.m.

• At 5:52 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Minshall House at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:56 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 5:58 p.m.

• At 1:03 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:10 and determined the alarm was due to air freshener. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:20 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed eight medical assists and had one disregard during this timeframe.
