The final tally is in: DePauw University’s Class of 2026 is officially its largest incoming class in four years.

In total, 535 first-year students already have begun to shape the character of their new home, adding to campus a multitude of cultures and experiences.

“The DePauw Class of 2026 is incredibly talented and bright, and we are happy to welcome them to the Tiger family,” Mary Beth Petrie, vice president for enrollment management, said. “They come from 31 states and 27 countries, from as far as The Philippines and as close as right here in Greencastle.”

Among the class: a child actor who toured with a Broadway show; a student who started a sneaker business; more than 50 captains of sports teams and academic competition teams; a regionally ranked powerlifter; a student on the board for the Attorney General’s Teen Ambassadors; a co-founder of a summer camp program for kids; an athlete who was on her country’s national softball team; and a recipient of the Indiana Association of School Principals Rising Star of Indiana Award.

Academically, students in the Class of 2026 indicated the highest interest in studying economics, followed by computer science and psychology. Their average high school GPA was 3.97, with 45 percent of students graduating in the top 10 percent of their high school class, and 76 percent graduating in the top quarter.

One in five incoming students reported that DePauw’s Bold & Gold 2027 strategic plan influenced their decision to attend. Launched in March 2022, the plan will establish two new schools – a School of Business and Leadership and a Creative School – while strengthening the core liberal arts foundation of every DePauw education.

“This class is the first class to enter DePauw after the announcement of the strategic plan,” Petrie said. “They will be here for the inauguration of the two new schools and will be able to choose majors and minors that include six new programs that have been added since last spring.”

This fall also marks the second time in the past 10 years that DePauw’s overall student enrollment has increased from the previous year. The rise in total enrollment was aided by first-to-second-year retention, which improved to 92 percent.

  • More moldable youth to turn into woke socialists.

  • Why woke? Wouldn’t asleep be more accurate?

  • To imply that students who attend Universities, including DePauw,

are turned into “woke socialists” is a gross misrepresentation of reality. But then again the far right seems ok with gross misrepresentations of reality currently.

  • Largest incoming class in 4 years while tuition and fees for 2022-2023 come in at a whopping $69K. Are you really setting young adults up for success?

  • DePauw is just a "status" university anyway. Kids from families with money and overbearing personalities. I do hope they inform these kids to pick up their trash and beer bottles after they party so Dave Murray won't get his panties in a wad. We have wine tasters to approve of the community. What a joke.

  • The LLSSC owns and lives in gross misrepsentations of reality.

Another point of commonality with far right and the LSCSSL.

    They are the same

  • Hmmm, imagine Greencastle without DePauw.

  • This is wonderful. Congrats to DePauw and good luck to the incoming class. Very cool and a positive development for DePauw and Greencastle. It's so nice when there is good news in the news.

  • "of the 66 top-rated liberal arts colleges, 39 percent had not a single registered Republican professor." Let's be honest about what happens on a college campus. Everyone knows it. And on the statement "gross misrepresentations of reality"....uh, how about we FACE reality?

  • oh oh. facts being used

-- Posted by beg on Mon, Sep 26, 2022, at 8:17 PM
  • That “survey” by Mitchell Langbert is widely cited by right wing talking heads. In fact, if you dig into it even Dr. Langbert has talked about the limitations of the survey. For instance it didn’t account for those unregistered to a political party or those who are affiliated as Libertarians. Also it only accounted for 64 colleges. Very small sample size. But the talking heads don’t want to tell you that. Reminiscent of the hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin debacle.

    Facts.

  • Note it didn't change the fact shared

No republican professors at 64 schools. I am unregistered. Not a republican. A non registered is not a republican.

So- I see another example of an SSLCL theologist agreeing/ confirming with someone who may be far right. I am becoming more convinced the extreme of both sides are the same people who use the same tactics
