A new location and a Putnam County Chamber membership now under its belt, the newest business to downtown Greencastle will celebrate with a grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 8.

Britt’s Blooming Boutique recently opened its doors at 5 W. Franklin St., on the north side of Putnam County Courthouse Square.

Open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., the store will have a grand opening celebration this Saturday.

The vision of Brittany Overshiner, the boutique started almost three years ago following the loss of her mom, who had earlier run Griffin’s Laundry on the south side of the square.

“I always said I wanted to put a boutique in there,” Overshiner recalls.

Someone else has realized that dream, with Blushing Beaus Boutique now in that location, but Overshiner said her mom’s death inspired her to do something that makes her happy.

Since then, she’s been trying to empower women of many shapes and sizes -- carrying clothes from small to 3X as well as accessories, shoes, home decor and more.

“Our big push is body positivity — no matter what shape, size, height, weight you are, we want you to know you can come in here and be comfortable,” Overshiner said.

“I’ve been on the plus side, and I’ve been on the not-plus side,” she added. “I’m a jeans and T-shirt girl, but I like to dress up too.”

It started out as selling on Facebook, but she outgrew that. So the next move was to an Amish-built cabin on County Road 400 West, as well as traveling to events like First Friday as well as 4-H and open livestock shows.

“We’re not completely western, but we have some show belts,” Overshiner said.

That connection comes through her 14-year-old daughter who is currently in 4-H. Overshiner hopes she can take over the business someday if she wants.

Overshiner also uses the business to support other local entrepreneurs, including selling Bae Air Candles, T-shirts by Jeny Sutherlin, “Farm Hands in the Making” baby clothes from Carmen Foster and Daisy May Creations from Jessica Carmichael.

Oveshiner is mainly excited to be in downtown Greencastle, more involved in the community.

“Now that I’m downtown, I feel like I get to be more involved in the community,” Overshiner said. “I think our community is so awesome and there are so many who do so much for the community.”
