Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated nine recent property-damage crashes.

• At 5:53 p.m. Arthur L. Scott, 38, Cloverdale, was westbound on U.S. 40 in a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado hauling a trailer.

Scott told Deputy Tod Hopkins that he was going up a slight grade when the trailer began to sway. He was not able to get the trailer under control, and the sway caused the truck and trailer to leave the road, where it overturned onto the driver’s side and in the eastbound lanes.

The tractor that had been on the trailer was partly off the trailer, with one tire still on the bed.

The truck, trailer and tractor were all towed from the scene.

Hopkins estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 11:23 a.m. on Saturday, Heather Fouber, 41, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2021 GMC Terrain when she hit a deer.

The vehicle had to be towed. Deputy Randy Patrick estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

•At 1:13 a.m. on Saturday, Deputy Hopkins was dispatched to a crash on Range Line Road. While he was en route, a caller advised he saw a male get into another car at the scene and drive off.

A short time later, the owner and driver of the car, Jeffrey L. Enlow, 28, Coatesville, was located at a Heritage Lake residence. He told Hopkins he had been on his way to Taco Bell when he swerved to miss a deer and ran off the road. He said he had hit something but could not recall what.

At the scene, Hopkins found the vehicle, a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, had hit a communications pole with the passenger side, completely shattering the rear windshield and the back passenger side window. There was also damage to the front driver’s side headlight. There was red paint that matched the vehicle on a broken mailbox post nearby. There were also skid marks leading to the crash.

Enlow was evaluated by EMS and transported for a driving while intoxicated investigation. He was revealed to have .101 alcohol concentration equivalent, and was booked in the jail a 3:57 a.m. for driving while intoxicated and laving the scene of an accident.

The car was towed. Hopkins estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 8:20 p.m. on Friday, Vincenzo J. Lantis, 22, Greenwood, was southbound on U.S. 231 approaching the intersection of U.S. 40 in a 2021 Ram ProMaster 3500 Amazon delivery van. Lantis told Reserve Deputy Joe Tesmer that as he came to a complete stop at the red light, he was struck from behind by another vehicle.

Kadeza F. Brown, 25, Camby, was also southbound in a 2004 Honda Accord. She told Tesmer she did not notice the Amazon van stopping at the red light until it was too late, rear-ending the other vehicle.

Brown’s car had to be towed. Tesmer estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 6 p.m. on Friday, Edward H. Webb, 55, Cloverdale, was riding on a 2011 Yamaha Bruin four-wheeler on his property when he crashed into the corner of a barn.

Webb told Deputy Hopkins he had been cutting firewood and moving it, but that he did not remember crashing and was not really in any pain. However, paramedics found Webb to be bleeding from the head as well as suffering a broken clavicle. He was taken to St. Vincent Hospital for further treatment.

Hopkins reported that it appeared Webb had been traveling through the grass when he lost control and hit the southwest corner of the barn.

Webb was preliminarily charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.

• At 7:59 a.m. on Friday, Teresa Welch, 59, Poland, was northbound on U.S. 231 just south of U.S. 40 in a 2019 GMC Sierra when she hit a deer.

The truck was towed. Patrick estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• Shortly after 7 a.m. on Thursday, two crashes occurred on the west end of Bainbridge, near the intersection of U.S. 36/Pat Rady Way and West Main Street.

At 7:30 a.m., John P. Grimes, 33, Greencastle, was eastbound in a 202 Chevrolet Silverado when he hit a deer.

Cpl. Brian Helmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

Then at 7:31 a.m., Sara J. Buchanan, 38, Waveland, was westbound in a 2020 Buick Encore when she noticed the crash. She slowed to pull over and help when she was struck from behind by another vehicle.

Wyleigh M. Thomas, 18, Roachdale, was also westbound in a 2005 Buick Rendezvous. She told Helmer she did not notice that Buchanan was slowing to pull over and could not avoid a collision.

Both Buchanan’s and Thomas’s vehicle were towed.

• At 5:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, Nedzbedin D. Veseli, 43, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen when he hit a deer.
