Damage limited in Saturday chimney fire
CLOVERDALE — Damage was limited in a chimney fire that occurred at a home in Cloverdale Saturday evening.
A box alarm was activated at about 5:15 p.m. for a possible structure fire at 73 Anna St. It was advised at the time that flames were showing from the fireplace.
The Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department responded with an engine and a tanker and found the homeowner on the roof spraying water down the chimney on their arrival. It was then determined that the fire was contained there.
As such, the box alarm was struck while the Greencastle Fire Department arrived with an engine. Firefighters then cleaned out the chimney and the fireplace and checked the walls with thermal imaging.
Cloverdale Township Fire Capt. Justin Shepherd related that there were no extensions or other damage found besides that inside the chimney.
The Cloverdale Police Department and Putnam County EMS also responded to the incident. Meanwhile, no injuries were reported.
Units went back into service before 5:55 p.m.
