BROWNSBURG CROSS COUNTRY SECTIONAL: Nine individuals, Clover girls qualify for Ben Davis Regional

Greencastle's Landon Miller secured a top-10 finish at the IHSAA Brownsburg Cross Country Sectional Saturday morning, finishing eight in the boys' race, one of nine individuals to qualify for the Ben Davis Regional this Saturday.

BROWNSBURG – Cloverdale’s girls’ cross country team finished fifth and qualified for the Ben Davis Regional from the IHSAA Brownsburg Cross Country Sectional Saturday morning.

The Clovers will be joined by nine additional runners from the other Putnam County schools at the regional, having qualified among the top-10 individuals without teams at the sectional race.

Ella Szczerbik (21:20) and Abigail Nees (21:21) crossed back-to-back in 19th and 20th place to help pace Cloverdale past Cascade for the final qualifier spot 156-167 with Daphanie Geiger (22:42) crossing in 33rd place, Olivia Hemmerling (23:33) finishing in 41st place and Ludovica Savoiani (25:50) finishing 53rd. Hannah Baker (26:34) crossed in 56th place for the Clovers.

Jacy Huffman (21:58) finished 29th overall while teammate Maddie Trent (22:48) crossed in 36th place to advance as individuals for North Putnam, which finished eighth overall on 202 points. Brooke Hensley (24:10) finished 44th overall, followed by Alaina Chew (25:06) in 47th and Erica Zalorski (29:53) in 64th place.

South Putnam, which finished ninth on 227 points, was led by Elise Kendall (22:12), who finished 31st and advanced to the regional. Hope Taylor (25:11) was next across in 49th place followed by Jasmine Guzman (26:19) in 55th, Stevie Keenan (26:51) in 57th, Bailey Haddon (27:48) in 59th, Molly Trammell (27:51) in 60th and Sarah Hinchman (29:17) in 63rd place.

Greencastle’s Meredith Ball (25:36) finished 51st overall.

North Putnam finished seventh overall in the boys’ race on 176 points, paced by Jeremiah Miles (16:54) in 17th place, followed by Brayden Monnett (17:10) in 21st, both qualifying for the regional. Corie Stancombe (18:24) and Thomas Nelson (18:25) finished in 46th and 47th place, followed by Elijah Harless (18:59) in 59th, Kaleb Walton (22:01) in 75th and Owen O’Hair (23:20) in 81st place.

South Putnam finished in eight place on 205 points, led by Keaton Chew (17:11) in 22nd place and Dunkin York (17:30) in 32nd place, both qualifying for the regional. Gabe Feltner (17:59) was just outside the individual qualifier slots in 40th place, followed by Noah Couch (19:42) and Harry Eaglin (19:50) in 65th and 66th, along with Isaac Boyce (22:09.1) and Landon Chew (22:09.3) in 77th and 78th place.

Landon Miller (16:23) secured a top-10 finish in the boys’ race, placing eighth overall, while Charlie Menzel (16:47) finished 14th, both qualifying for the regional. Isaac Hertenstein (22:04) finished 76th and Jeremiah Weir (22:09) finished 79th overall as the Tiger Cubs did not have a fifth runner at the sectional.

Matthew Miller (18:35) led Cloverdale at the sectional with a 51st place finish, followed by Carson Hall (18:48) in 56th, Jacob Miller (19:31) in 62nd and Spencer Nees (21:04) in 73rd as the Clovers also did not have a fifth runner at the sectional.

Brownsburg won both the boys’ (37) and girls’ (41) team titles over Avon, though the Orioles had both individual winners in Samuel Clore (15:43) Jessica Hegedus (18:00).
