Cynthia Baldwin Robertson

Cynthia Baldwin Robertson died peacefully on Oct. 9, 2022, in Columbus, Ind.

A longtime resident of Indianapolis, she most recently lived at Marquette Senior Living until the time of her acute illness.

She was born July 21, 1935, in Washington, D.C., the youngest of four girls, to the late Roger Lee and Alys O’Neil Baldwin.

Cynthia attended Sidwell Friends School through high school and graduated from Denison University, where she met her future husband, Edwin Robertson.

Cynthia and Ed’s marriage was at the foundation of her happiest times. They were a team from the beginning and their love and support deepened throughout their 52-year union. Together, they built lasting friendships with other couples traveling, playing bridge, raising families and celebrating holidays. Cynthia and Ed were devoted to each other and to their family, serving as wonderful role models.

Cynthia supported her community without need for recognition. She co-taught a class of special education students, served as a parole officer for the State of Indiana, mentored juvenile inmates at the Indiana Girls School, and was a Guardian ad Litem volunteer. In addition, she was an early member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, a volunteer and executive officer with the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s Alliance and a member of the Arbutus Garden Club and the Indiana chapter of Questers.

Determined to hone her writing skills and pen her own stories, she completed a master’s degree in English at Butler University. She kept most of her stories to herself, but much to her delight, her “Lament of a Fisherman’s Wife” was published in the Charlevoix, Mich., newspaper.

Cynthia loved all things chocolate, reading a great book, receiving a handwritten letter and taking her children and grandchildren on excursions to the Children’s Museum, the zoo, the IMA and the Eiteljorg Museum, plus hosting family, friends and acquaintances whenever she had the chance. Cynthia cherished the decades-long friendships she shared with her college “sisters,” the Speedway gang, Bible study friends, the ONAMIC club, the dental school group, her Charlevoix “twin” and more.

Cynthia is survived by her daughters, Rebecca (Michael) Moore of Greencastle and Pamela Robertson (James Bolton) of Columbus; grandchildren Abe Moore (Deborah Celizic), Alys Moore (Luke Mahrenholz), Griffin Moore (Savannah Provine), Spencer (Natalie) Moore, Grant Bolton and Lindsay (Josh) Tunny; great-grandchildren Quinn Moore-Provine, Maguire Moore Mahrenholz and Ben and Norah Tunny; and nieces and nephews Liz, Zach, Seth, Nathan, Roger and Lisa.

In addition to her parents, Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Robertson, and sisters Filis Coit, Beverly Baldwin and Alice Cederquist.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th St., Indianapolis, on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. until the time of her funeral service at noon. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Newfields or the Eiteljorg Museum.
