Stephen “Steve” C. Clark, 75, of Martinsville, passed away on Oct. 16, 2022.

He was born on August 25, 1947, in Greencastle to the late Robert E. and Frances (Lanham) Clark.

He served his country in the United States Army for three years. He learned to fly helicopters and provided gun cover for ground troops in Vietnam. This sparked his interest in aeronautics.

Steve graduated from Purdue University with a degree in aeronautical engineering. He worked for General Electric in Cincinnati and while there, earned a master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati. He was an aeronautical engineer for Rolls Royce, first in Atlanta, and then relocated back to Indiana when Rolls-Royce bought the former Allison Engine Company. He retired in 2004

Steve was the social organizer for friends and colleagues, whether it be lunches, after work gatherings, running teams, volleyball, tennis, aerobics, annual boat trips and holiday gatherings. Steve was an avid runner and proud of maintaining the annual tradition to run the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta. An annual boat trip with friends to Lake Cumberland continued for 40 years, with Steve being the only one to never miss a trip. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Michelle.

He is survived by his sister, Barbara Wood, and his niece Traci Lane (Bryant) of Foley, Ala. He is also survived by many longterm and close friends that served as an additional family. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his best friend and wife of 21 years, Michelle D. Clark, in 2017, and brother-in-law David A. Wood in 2021.

A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. on Nov. 5 at G. H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, with visitation from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions in Steve’s name may be made to ASPCA or the Salvation Army.
