Timothy E. Schroer, 69, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022, at home with his wife after a diagnosis of metastatic pancreatic cancer on Sept. 9.

After 28-plus years in Brownsburg, Tim and his wife Becky (Snelling) Schroer moved to Westfield in August 2022.

Tim was a dedicated high school English and Latin teacher for 36 years. He loved his students, who knew him as Magister Schroerus. He often called himself a “sinister dude” because the Latin word for “left-handed,” which he was, meant “sinister.” He was anything but sinister.

Tim started his teaching career at Jac-Cen-Del Schools in Osgood, Ind. He then had a brief stint at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis before finishing his love of teaching at South Putnam Community Schools (on U.S. 40 south of Greencastle), from where he retired in 2013.

Tim was born on May 1, 1953, in Geneva, Ill., to the Rev. Kenneth and Anita (Berning) Schroer, who preceded him in death. Tim lived in Illinois until his family moved to Noblesville and then South Bend, from where he graduated from South Bend Washington High School in 1971. He also was a proud 1975 graduate of Wabash College, Crawfordsville. He received his master’s degree from Ball State University in Muncie.

Tim was an amazingly loving and patient husband to his adoring wife, Becky. They married in 1994 and have been parents to cats. They enjoyed wintering in their Arizona condo, where they have met many wonderful friends. Together they enjoyed sports and cultural events.

Tim was an avid sports card/memorabilia, coin and stamp collector for many years. His favorite teams were the Indiana Pacers as well as the Chicago Bears, Cubs and White Sox. He was thrilled to see each Chicago team win a championship in his lifetime. He also loved reading, especially Roman and American history, and sports. He would many times read three-to-four books at a time.

Tim is survived by his adoring wife, Becky (hometown Noblesville) of Westfield; his brother David (Cindy) of Stamford, Conn.; his brother Peter of Kokomo; and his sister, Lisa (the late Mark) Wesley and brother Nathan (Connie) Schroer, both of Fort Wayne. His surviving niece and nephew are Sarah Schroer of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Kenton (Lainey) Schroer of Kokomo.
