Grief care continues to grow in Putnam County

Tuesday, October 25, 2022

A recent grant from the Putnam County Community Foundation has enabled Crawfordsville-based Dusk-to-Dawn Bereavement Services to expand free access to support, counseling, education and resources for anyone in need in Putnam County.

The organization offers bi-monthly open grief groups, book-based support groups and individual care.

“We can’t begin to say how grateful we are for this grant and all it makes possible in our community,” said J Miranda, certified professional coach and staff counselor at Dusk-to-Dawn. “Grief emerges in so many different ways, and we know individuals and families in our community are suffering a variety of losses. Sharing these experiences in community reminds us we don’t have to do it alone.”

In addition to the death of loved ones, Miranda supports caregivers and others who are experiencing non-death losses as well.

The grief support groups meet at 7 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of each month at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church. An additional closed book group meets weekly, with the next group scheduled to begin in January. Individual counseling is also available on a limited basis.

Dusk-to-Dawn Bereavement Services works closely with local partners including Gobin, Mental Health America of Putnam County and Putnam County Hospital to provide these services throughout the community.

The support group will meet Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at Gobin, with the regular bi-monthly schedule resuming Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.

Those interested are encouraged to visit the organization’s website at http://www.dusk-to-dawn.org or follow Dusk-to-Dawn on Facebook for announcements of each meeting.
