Community Connect event set for Saturday

Monday, October 24, 2022

A second Community Connect event will be held at the Putnam County Fairgrounds Saturday, Oct. 29 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

The aim of the Community Connect is to connect people to resources available in the community on one day and in one place.

Attendees will be able to visit with a variety of resources, including Giving Tree, Centerpoint Energy, Coats for Kids, insurance, elder care, dental care, mental health and addiction services, health screenings and vaccines.

Gleaners Food Bank will be available from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and a drug take-back will also be held.

Grocery and gas gift cards will also be given away every 30 minutes, and a bounce house will be on hand. Free lunches will be provided courtesy of Myers’ Market.

“I have seen firsthand how this community can come together to help those in need, and I want to make it more easily available to others,” said Heather Weaver, who saw a similar effort in Terre Haute and wanted to bring it to Putnam County. “Having so many people come together to help provide services in a convenient location for those who struggle is an absolutely amazing experience.”

Heather and Lori Miller of Getting Ahead in Putnam County have co-chaired the event and worked with a team of serving agencies.

Sponsors for the event include CenterPoint, the City of Greencastle, Anthem Insurance, the Putnam County Community Foundation, Putnam County Comprehensive Services, Hoosier Heartland State Bank, Teachers Credit Union, Putnam County Hospital, Greencastle Hometown Dental and Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church.

  • What a great event Heather and Lori for our community. We were so honored to be a part of it! Thank you Myer’s Market for providing a delicious lunch and all the Vendors who made the project possible!
