Alan Karpick

Alan Karpick, president and publisher of GoldandBlack.com, the online Gold and Black Illustrated, will be the featured speaker at a dinner sponsored by the Purdue Alumni Club of Putnam County on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

The 6 p.m. dinner will be held at the Inn at DePauw.

Karpick was originally the publisher of Gold and Black Illustrated, a longtime magazine covering Purdue athletics. He has guided the transition of the magazine from print to digital.

“If you want to know what’s going on in Purdue sports, we can give readers everything they want to know,” Karpick said. “Our mission is to be the one-stop shopping place for Purdue fans.”

Karpick serves on the advisory board for the Purdue Center for Cancer Research and in 2017 met Tyler Trent, the Purdue student who established the Tyler Trent Cancer Research Endowment and who died of a rare form of bone cancer in 2019. The two worked together with Tyler writing columns for the Gold & Black website and appearing on a live-stream show at Gold and Black.

Other interests have also attracted Karpick. He has served on the West Lafayette Community School Board for 16 years and was involved in the launching of the Columbus Chill Hockey team in 1991.

A graduate of West Lafayette High School, Karpick holds a BS in management and physical education teaching and coaching from Purdue’s Krannert School of Management and an MS in sports administration from West Virginia University.

Ron Birt, president of the Purdue Club, invites all Purdue fans to attend for an evening of “everything Purdue sports.”

Cost of the dinner is $25.

Reservations can be made with Sandy Williams (653-3523) or Shirley Steward (765-366-1347) by Friday, Nov. 11.

The Purdue Club is open to anyone in Putnam County with ties to Purdue University. Its goals include promoting Purdue as the college choice for students, awarding scholarships to county students who attend Purdue, promoting awareness of Purdue programs, and promoting fellowship among Purdue friends.

The club has awarded $50,800 in 69 scholarships since 2002.
