County Jail

Five people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 10:54 p.m. Damon J. Miller, 45, Plainfield, was housed at the jail on a warrant for parole violation.

Tuesday

• At 12:18 a.m. Austin R. Chadd, 28, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a warrant.

Monday

• At 9:50 p.m. Christopher L. Hutto, 45, Fillmore, was taken into custody on a warrant.

• At 8:16 p.m. Trevor W. Ring, 19, Roachdale, was housed at the jail for reckless driving and two counts of resisting law enforcement.

• At 6:12 p.m. Justin S. Walsh, 36, Ladoga, was booked in on a warrant.

City Police

Four recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, Teresa L. Tippin, 47, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Billy DeWitt at the Phillips 66 Mini-Mart on North Jackson Street.

Tippin was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a Putnam County warrant for domestic battery. She was also held on a new charge of possession of methamphetamine.

• At 4:22 p.m. Wednesday, Anthony M. Leonard, 27, Greencastle, was arrested by Sgt. Brad Hiatt.

Taken into custody at a Crown Street residence, Leonard was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for residential entry.

• At 8:12 p.m. Tuesday, Fabian T. Dunigan, 23, Bainbridge, was arrested by Officer Luke Brown.

Booked into the jail for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, Dunigan was arrested at Washington and Arlington streets with a blood-alcohol content of .208 percent, according to portable breathalyzer testing.

• At 5:15 p.m. Monday, Ashley H. Wagner, 37, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Darrel Bunten at a Beveridge Street residence.

Wagner was arrested on a Putnam County warrant for failure to appear on two original charges of neglect of dependent.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• At 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, Kelsey Wetli, 31, Cloverdale, was southbound on County Road 50 West in a 2022 Subaru Forester when she hit a deer.

The car was towed. Deputy David Bennett estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

•At 4:11 a.m. on Sunday, Robert McNeil, 37, Brazil, was northbound on County Road 300 East attempting to navigate a curve to the left in a 2013 Kia Optima.

The car left the road and slid through a yard, crashing into two vehicles parked in a driveway, a 2011 Ford Explorer registered to Johnathon Franklin, and a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee registered to Andrea Bills.

McNeil told Deputy Bennett that as he entered the corner, he was not able to slow down and maintain control because of the wet roads.

Before deputies arrived, McNeil had already made contact with Franklin and Bills. They had been asleep and provided deputies no further information.

McNeil’s vehicle was towed. Bennett estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to six incidents since Monday afternoon:

• At 3:47 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 3632 S. U.S. 231 for a report of a telephone line in the roadway. Firefighters found the downed line at 3:56 and advised the resident at the given address to contact the telephone company. GFD went back into service at 4:04 p.m.

• At 7:47 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Druley House at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:49 and determined the alarm was due to cooking and dirty appliances. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 7:51 p.m.

• At 1:58 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched for a vehicle fire at the intersection of Hillcrest and Meadow drives. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 2:01 and found that police had effectively extinguished the fire. Firefighters checked for hot spots and ensured the fire was out. GFD went back into service at 3:07 p.m.

• At 6:54 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD received a call for a fire alarm at 11 N. Indiana St. Firefighters arrived at 6:56 and were advised by the caller that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 7 p.m.

• At 8:51 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to Minshall House at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:53 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 9 p.m.

• At 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a mutual aid request for a possible fire at Holiday Inn Express in Cloverdale. Firefighters arrived in GFD’s aerial truck and it was advised that equipment had malfunctioned, but that there was no fire. Gas was shut off, and GFD went back into service at 8:58 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed two medical assists and had three disregards in this timeframe.
