County Jail

Three people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Tuesday

• At 11:12 a.m. Kevin W. Fouts, 43, Marshall, Ill., was housed at the jail for domestic battery.

Monday

• At 2:26 p.m. Raymond D. Gray, 30, Poland, was lodged at the jail on warrants for failure to appear, domestic battery, burglary, theft and possession of methamphetamine.

• At 1:52 p.m. Rachel A. Billings, 34, Poland, was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine.

City Police

Three recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, Cordell George III, 33, Mooresville, was arrested by Officer Jared McDaniel after a traffic stop on U.S. 231 just north of the entrance to Putnam County Hospital.

George was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for possessing stolen property (the license plate on his vehicle) and driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

• At 11:55 a.m. Tuesday, Shawn W. Smith, 40, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Alec Pettit in a driveway on County Road 125 South.

Smith was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for leaving the scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated-refusal.

Smith was driving a 2016 Dodge Ram southbound on Arlington Street, approaching Shadowlawn Avenue when while turning, the vehicle struck another 2016 Dodge Ram, driven by Mark Walker, who was eastbound on Shadowlawn and had stopped for the stopsign.

No damage estimates were available.

• At 1:35 a.m. Tuesday, Kyle Fisher, 29, Fillmore, was arrested by Officer Billy DeWitt following a one-vehicle accident at Albin Pond and Round Barn roads.

Fisher was booked into the jail for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated-refusal after his vehicle reportedly ran off the roadway and struck a utility pole.

A passenger in the vehicle, Isach Osborn, 19, Greencastle, was issued a summons by Officer McDaniel for being a minor in consumption of alcohol. Osborn’s blood-alcohol concentration registered .24 percent under portable breathalyzer testing.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated the following recent crash.

• At 2:22 a.m. on Wednesday, John Spivey, 29, Cloverdale, was southbound on State Road 243 in a 2009 Toyota RAV4 when he hit a deer.

Deputy David Bennett estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

The vehicle had to be towed due to extensive front-end damage.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to five incidents since Monday morning:

• At 9:17 a.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident without injuries at the intersection of Washington and Arlington streets. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 9:19 and assisted with patient checkout and cleaned up debris. GFD went back into service at 9:42 a.m.

• At 10:12 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 303 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:15 and determined the alarm was due to a dirty detector. The detector was cleaned and the alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 10:21 a.m.

• At 8:14 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Starbucks to assist police with gaining entry to the property. for a possible elevator rescue. Firefighters arrived soon after and found no issue. The property was secured, and GFD went back into service at 8:22 p.m.

• At 1:39 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident without injuries at the intersection of Albin Pond Road and County Road 100 East. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 1:44 and Duke Energy was contacted due to the vehicle crashing into guy-wires. GFD went back into service at 2:30 a.m.

• At about 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to assist the Reelsville Volunteer Fire Department with a grass fire. Firefighters initially responded with GFD’s brush truck, but a box alarm was dropped due to a small barn catching fire. Firefighters arrived on the scene with an engine at about 2:30 and protected extensions and equipment, as well as extinguished hot spots in the nearby woods. Firefighters from the Cloverdale Township, Madison Township, Poland and Putnamville Correctional Facility departments also responded. GFD went back into service at about 3:30 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed six medical assists during this timeframe.
