Ivy Tech Community College has honored Linda Pearson of Ivy Tech Greencastle and Marquis E. Songer of Ivy Tech Terre Haute as two of the 39 individuals across the state selected to receive the 2022 President’s Award, the highest honor for Ivy Tech adjunct faculty and faculty.

“We are fortunate to have faculty members who exemplify excellence and represent Ivy Tech Community College remarkably,” stated Lea Anne Crooks, chancellor of Ivy Tech Terre Haute/Greencastle.

The college honored each of the President’s Award winners for their exemplary work with students and the college community during the past year. A selection committee comprised of alumni, past winners, state trustees, faculty representatives and college administration selected the honorees based on nominations from students, fellow faculty members and Ivy Tech staff.

“Linda has been a reliable instructor whom I never doubt will do a fantastic job,” wrote Robin Burke, professor and program chair for psychology at Ivy Tech Community College Terre Haute/Greencastle, in her nomination of Pearson. “The feedback she gives her students is thorough and not only provides students with information about why points were deducted but also about what they did well. They can build on those strengths to improve their grade.”

“The impact our faculty members have on our students extends far beyond the classroom,” said Ivy Tech President Sue Ellspermann. “In addition to leading courses, faculty members are often seen as mentors and role models for our students. We are proud to recognize their excellence, passion, and dedication to Ivy Tech and the communities in which they live and serve.”

Now in its 42nd year, the President’s Awards program recognizes faculty and adjunct faculty members from Ivy Tech locations throughout the state.

Pearson has been with Ivy Tech for more than 14 years and teaches in the School of Arts, Sciences and Education. She specializes in psychology, life span development, and communications course. Pearson works closely with the ASAP program at Ivy Tech Greencastle, which is an accelerated program allowing students to earn their associate degree in less than a year. Pearson earned her bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University and her doctoral degree from Indiana University.

The college also honored Marquis E. Songer, program chair and assistant professor of machine tool technology, with the Glenn W. Sample Founder’s Award for Excellence in Instruction.
