The Floyd Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Greencastle Fire Department responded to provide manpower. Meanwhile, Putnam County EMS and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office were on standby.

A supply line was connected from Fillmore VFD’s engine to a hydrant across the street, and so three hand lines were utilized to get at the fire. The ribbed metal siding became unstable and was eventually torn down to contain it completely.

After the main operation was complete and Greencastle Fire and Floyd Township Fire went back into service, Fillmore firefighters remained at the scene into early Sunday morning to put out remaining hot spots.

Fillmore Fire Asst. Chief Dan Heavin told the Banner Graphic that no injuries to nearby residents or fire personnel were reported.

The fire’s cause and the overall damages of the barn and its contents, which included vehicles and tools, were undetermined.

Personnel survey the debris following the blaze being extinguished. The barn and its contents were a total loss.
