County Jail

Eight people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently:

Sunday

• At 12:20 p.m. McKenzie C. King, 26, Greencastle, was taken into custody for domestic battery and on a warrant criminal mischief.

• At 12 a.m. Jason L. Harrington, 44, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a warrant for domestic battery.

Saturday

• At 7:05 p.m. Charles E. Henry, 57, Roachdale, was taken into custody on possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine and on a warrant for failure to register as a sex or violent offender.

• At 3:20 a.m. Raymond E. Kenworthy, 64, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail for operating while intoxicated.

• At 12:20 a.m. Ronald D. Withrow, 46, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail on a warrant for unlawful possession of a syringe.

Friday

• At 10:40 p.m. Timothy J. Waddell, 34, Martinsville, was taken into custody on a warrant for body attachment.

• At 2:34 p.m. James T. Miller, 33, Crawfordsville, was housed at the jail on a warrant for nonsupport of a dependent.

• At 12 a.m. Sandra R. Sanchez, 35, Roachdale, was lodged at the jail on warrant for criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and possession of a controlled substance.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of property-damage crashes recently:

• At 4:26 a.m. on Wednesday, Nicholas Pennington, 43, Cloverdale was traveling northbound on U.S. 231 in 2008 Chevrolet Equinox when he hit a deer.

Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damages at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 8:18 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 Rebecca Lozano, 20, Hobart, was traveling northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2016 Mini Countryman when she came to a curve in the road.

With the road being slushy, Lozano lost control of her vehicle and left the roadway, crashing into a farm fence. Both the fence and the vehicle incurred heavy damage.

The vehicle was towed. Deputy Randy Patrick estimated damages at $5,000-10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to 10 incidents in the last week:

• At 11:13 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 14, GFD was dispatched to 2263 S. CR 250 East for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:20 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 11:34 a.m.

• At 12:32 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, GFD was dispatched for a tri-axle truck on fire at 5888 E. State Road 240. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 12:40 and extinguished the fire. The Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department also responded with a tanker. GFD turned command over to the Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department and went back into service at 2:30 p.m.

• At 3:01 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, GFD was dispatched to 815 Tacoma Dr. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:06 and were advised of construction and that the alarm system had been reset. GFD went back into service at 3:07 p.m.

• At 9:51 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident at 2195 W. CR 300 South. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 10:02 p.m. and cleaned up fluids. GFD went back into service at 10:53 p.m.

• At 9:04 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, GFD was dispatched to 870 Robin Wood Pl. for a carbon monoxide alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:15 and found that the alarm had malfunctioned and replaced its batteries. GFD went back into service at 9:26 a.m.

• At 6:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, GFD was dispatched to 806 S. Jackson St. for a gas leak. Firefighters arrived at 6:26 and did not detect any gas leakage. It was determined that the gas system had purged. GFD went back into service at 6:51 p.m.

• At 3:27 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 95 Ridgeland Rd. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:32 and determined the alarm had malfunctioned and replaced its batteries. GFD went back into service at 3:46 a.m.

• At 8:20 a.m. on Friday, GFD was responded to a motor vehicle incident with injuries on U.S. 40 in front of South Putnam Middle/High School. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 8:25 and assisted with patient care and cleaned up debris. GFD went back into service at 9:04 a.m.

• At 8:49 a.m. on Friday, a resident came to GFD’s station and requested assistance with a water line at 3101 W. CR 100 South. Firefighters went and arrived at 8:53 and found that a water line had burst. The valve was shut off and GFD went back into service at 8:56 a.m.

• At 8:42 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Hoover Hall at DePauw University for a possible gas leak. Firefighters arrived at 8:46 and did not detect a leak, but noted that there was a sewage smell coming from a bathroom. Maintenance advised that the issue would be addressed. GFD went back into service at 8:56 p.m.

Additionally, GFD responded to 11 medical assists during this timeframe.
