County Jail

Four people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently:

Tuesday

• At 9:15 p.m. Charles P. Cooper, 34, Cloverdale, was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine and warrants for possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 6:10 p.m. Julie A. Bailey, 45, Rosedale, was lodged at the jail on warrants for possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, operating a vehicle with a Schedule I or II controlled substance in the body, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle after forfeiture of license for life.

• At 1:16 p.m. Bryan M. Orr, 21, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for criminal trespass.

• At 9:45 a.m. Isaac N. Strong, 22, Coatesville, was taken into custody for domestic battery.

Sheriff’s Office

A Putnam County sheriff’s deputy investigated one property-damage crash recently:

• At 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Orlando Otero, 20, Washington, Ind., was traveling northbound on U.S. 231 in 2008 Nissan Sentra when he hit a deer.

Deputy Todd Hopkins estimated damages at $1,000-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four incidents since Monday morning:

• At 10:41 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched for a vehicle fire at 215 N. CR 300 West. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 10:48 and extinguished a fully involved car. The cause was undetermined, while the owner advised that smoke emanated after turning on the heat. GFD went back into service at 11:36 a.m.

• At 1:55 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to assist the Madison Township Volunteer Fire Department with a brush fire in the area of 3468 S. CR 550 West. Firefighters arrived at 2:11 p.m. and assisted with putting out the fire. GFD went back into service at 4:53 p.m.

• At 9:05 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to the DePauw University duplex at 105 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:10 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 9:18 a.m.

• At 2 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to the International Automotive Components building for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:06 and found a water flow was showing, but could not locate it. Power was shut off and maintenance advised the issue would be fixed. GFD went back into service at 2:46 a.m.

Additionally, GFD responded to 10 medical assists and had one disregard during this timeframe.
