The last hike of 2022 hosted by Putnam Parks and Pathways will take place on Saturday at Putnam Nature Trail.

Participants are encouraged to dress warmly for the 9 a.m. hike on Saturday, Dec. 10.

Anyone participating should park at the parking lot next to the trail just south of 3G Bowl on South Jackson Street, Greencastle.

The out and back hike will give a good view of the trail as winter sets in.

There is a short bluebird trail along the path. The hike will include checking and cleaning out the boxes so they are ready for the Eastern Bluebirds in the spring.

Across the Southern Highway is the southern edge of the Wisconsin Glacier, which was the last glacier in Indiana. Greencastle and Northern Putnam County were covered by 700 feet of ice about 31,500 years ago. The rocks and boulders found in Putnam County tumbled down from mountains in Canada and were carried by the Glaciers and dropped here. Both the Putnam County Museum and Putnam Parks & Pathways are hopng to gather some boulders to display at the Museum and on the Pathways.

The first hike next year will be on Sunday, Jan. 1 at Lieber State Recreation Area.
