More than $1.1 million in road funding is coming to Putnam County as a result of the latest round of Community Crossings grants.

On Tuesday, the Indiana Department of Transportation announced that Cloverdale and Roachdale were among the 229 cities, towns and counties to receive the state matching funds.

Cloverdale is set to receive $968,410.50 in road funding, while Roachdale will receive $207,572.25.

Communities submitted applications for funding during the call for projects in July and August. Applications were evaluated based on need and current conditions, as well as impacts to safety and economic development.

To qualify for funding, local governments must provide local matching funds of 50 percent for larger communities, or 25 percent for smaller communities, and have an asset management plan for maintaining existing roads and bridges.

This means that Cloverdale will have to provide $322,803.50 in local funding for its project, while Roachdale will need $69,190.75 in local funds.

Funding for Community Crossings comes from the state’s local road and bridge matching grant fund. The Community Crossings initiative has provided more than $1 billion in state matching funds for local construction projects since 2016.

During this round of funding, the 229 entities received a combined $119.4 million in matching Community Crossings funding.
