County Jail

Several people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 1:52 p.m. Geoffrey W. McClellan, 38, Brazil, was housed at the jail on a warrant for nonsupport of a dependent child and nonsupport of a spouse.

• At 1:49 p..m. Joshua K. Easton, 31, Terre Haute, was booked in on two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

• At 9:49 a.m. Daniel S. Roach, 41, Cloverdale, lodged at the jail on a warrant.

Tuesday

• At 10:16 p.m. Belinda J. Zeffel, 52, Fillmore, was booked in for driving while intoxicated.

• At 1:12 a.m. Jeffrey D. Bindhammer, 29, Reelsville, was lodged at the jail for trafficking with an inmate, possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

Monday

• At 2:09 p.m. Kallie A. Pruitt, 29, Brazil, was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 10:03 a.m. Jeremiah D. Parrish, 32, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail on a warrant for domestic battery.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 3:23 a.m. Wednesday, Patricia L. Withrow, 37, and Cheecoawa A. Withrow, 24, both of Cloverdale, were arrested by Officer Billy DeWitt.

Stopped at Shadowlawn Avenue and Fawn View Lane, both were lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Patricia faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a syringe and possession of paraphernalia, while Cheecoawa faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe and possession of paraphernalia.

Three individuals were issued summonses recently by city officers:

• At 12:36 a.m. Tuesday, Julia Rogers, 45, Greencastle, was cited by Officer DeWitt at Indianapolis Road and the Taco Bell parking lot.

Rogers was given a summons for possession of paraphernalia.

• At 9:37 p.m. Dec. 3, Jaida Wilhite, 25, Indianapolis, was issued a summons by Officer Angela Taylor.

Stopped at Bloomington and Martinsville streets, Wilhite was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

• At 6:05 p.m. Dec. 1, Jamie Spires, 32, Rockville, was issued a summons by Officer Jared McDaniel.

Stopped at Jackson Street and County Road 25 South, Spires was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

One citation was issued by city officers recently:

• At 6:35 p.m. Monday, Lynette Williams, 62, Cloverdale, was cited by Officer McDaniel.

Stopped at Washington and Locust streets, Williams was ticketed for having an expired license plate (Dec. 14, 2021).

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies recently investigated the follow property-damage crashes.

• At 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, Michael E. Smith, 65, Brazil, was traveling southwest on Manhattan Road in a 1994 Toyota Celica when he lost control, ran off the road and hit a utility pole.

Deputy Todd Hopkins reported major damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle, as well as the rear window being completely broken out of the car. He saw minimal damage to the pole, but Duke Energy was contacted. Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

The car was towed. Smith was not injured.

• At 7:38 p.m. on Thursday, Teanna R. Brown, 29, Poland, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2016 Dodge Ram when she hit a deer.

Deputy Hopkins estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 7:33 p.m. Karyn L. Lantis, 24, Coatesville, was southbound on County Road 725 East in a 2017 Kia Sportage when she hit a deer.

Reserve Deputy Ken Rozelle estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to three incidents since Monday evening:

• At 11:23 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 815 Tacoma Dr. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:28 and determined the alarm was caused by painting. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 11:39 p.m.

• At 3:47 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for entrapment in an elevator. Firefighters arrived at 3:59 and freed those inside with assistance from maintenance workers. GFD went back into service at 4:18 p.m.

• At 10:57 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to DePauw University’s health center for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:02 a.m. and determined the alarm was due to construction. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 11:07 a.m.

Additionally, GFD responded to six medical assists and had one disregard during this timeframe.
